No Gold---Just Trash and Cash

Sven

Well-known member
Got to say really liking the DeepTech Vista Gold now that I am understanding its language when it comes to digging goodies vs. trash.
I am doing pretty good with current settings that eliminate most foils but still get the thin gold rings when I walk over them.
The tell tale signal in disc mode is a clip sound right end of the pinpoint. Good targets break off clean, no clip. Then at times I'll hear what sounds like a clip but it is not,
so far I stop dead in my tracks when I hear this sound. Usually a Canadian clad coin.

This baby loves Canadian clad.....Did a 4 hour hunt today in the cool biting wind and did really well. My foil, canslaw trash count was down, still got a good bunch of tabs, a few zipper pulls, pencil eraser tip, very tiny pot metal jewelry item. Coin to trash ratio is a big difference when using this detector.

Had two detectors with me...I couldn't put the Vista Gold down, just fun to use...........so for the last half hour or so grabbed the FS2 (GoldBug Pro clone) with a 5x10 GoldBug coil I just bought for it. Had to see how it would do. Well it works great, where I stopped off with the Vista I continued with the FS2. Within 5 minutes, I plucked out of the ground a Twoonie and a Loonie, couple dimes, a nickel and several pennies and the usual VLF junk, not in the picture. Foil, nail, bottle caps, spike, ........That gives me a good idea what the Vista is ignoring. Was really curious to see what I missed with the Vista. Went back over the same area I found all the other coins at. Junk and several pennies and two dimes.

Overall ended up with $10.90.

Hey Sven!

You know i live mid state Georgia at the fall line where the red clay meets sand. you lived in North Georgai and know how tough red clay is to dig in, and to detect in because of its iron oxide content.

do you think one of the Vistas would be good in Red Clay? you know its trashy here too, nasty folks! .

i diversified my small herd to a MXT, xp350 and coin scanner pro Compass, and a Cutlass II and Silver Sabre plus thats being modded plus a spare. not just your old favorite (and mine too!) brand.

do you think a Vista will give me an advantage over what i have, where i live? which model?

thanks ....Carey

P. S. its getting cooler here so i know your hunting window is about closed. lead flying here ..hunters in the woods.. and short days so after work hunts not possible soon. it will give me the winter to do some manuevering to get one.. reccommendations appreciated. Monte has posted before so many folks basically have a bunch of detectors that do the same thing the same way and about the same performance- features. i want diversity...and your opinion.

Thats a very good report/review of the Vista Gold, must admit i am warming to one of these machines for some of my trashy roman/saxon sites as i think it could do rather well,Staffs Detectors have one in at the moment for a very reasonable price,if i can find the combination lock to my wallet i could be very tempted.

Trouble is although i only use a few 'light' detectors these days,i still have way too many i think i have 11 or 12 at the moment,oh and many coils as well, think i may have to hid some 1st before another one appears.

All you have to do is ask Keith Southern, he's right in the thick of the soils. He has nothing but good to say how it handles North Ga soils.
He has some good videos on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/user/relics1864/search?query=deeptech

He's a member of this forum but for the most part moved over to Nasa Toms forum

Thanks Sven!

was not familiar with that forum, but have corresponded with Kieth before. did not know he liked the Vista. he has some awesome settings for relics with the AT-Pro our mutual friend uses. .

checked on our mutual friend the other day. things kinda real tough now but he is hanging in there.

He listed some nice detectors for sale a few weeks ago on the other forum.

I was going to say keith southern would be the man to talk to about Georgia soil I was the one that lent him a first generation to test plus the relic and rg 1000 for testing

I keep dropping in here and keep thinking about one of these and then I go looking where to buy one sent to Australia cant find anyone who will send them here and then I forget about it again anyway mustn't be meant to have one :sadwalk:

Why not just order direct from DeepTech?
