Noise cancel channel height.

Can someone please let me know what is the recommended height to hold your detector coil above the ground when doing the noise cancel setup. I like to hold my coil about 4 inches above the ground but I have observed other people holding it flat on the ground & still others holding it at heights ranging from 1 ft to waist height! Who is correct please?

......I do mine horizontally at waist height.......

Gaz.

FROM SERVERAL INSTRUCTION VIDEOS,I HAVE FOUND THE BEST WAY IS TO PUMP THE COIL UP AND DOWN SERVERAL INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND.,RAISING OR LOWERING THE READING MANUALLY TO FIND THE LOWEST SOUND. ONE VIDEO,RECOMMENDED ADDING A COUPLE + PLUS INCREASES TO MAKE THE DETECTOR RESPOND TO THE SIGNAL BETTER. I DO THIS ON THE X-305,AND ALL IS GREAT
HOPE THIS HELPS.

As I understand it jsblake, what you're describing is the method of setting ground balance and offset. Noise canceling is different.

From the manual:
It is best to choose a channel with the coil in the detection (horizontal) position because interference in a vertical position may be different from interference in a horizontal position.

The coil should be held in the air away from large targets when changing Noise Cancel channels.

I usually set mine with the coil a foot or so off the ground, as that is nearer to the position it will be in while working. Just check the ground under it in AM mode before setting it to make sure that it's over "clean" ground, just as you should when setting ground balance.
