Notching out -numbers and 16-18 and 26-28 missing anything?

I tried a few different modes and notches and think this may help me keep from getting the can slaw and cans also. If I hear a blip
Noise I double check it. Found my FIRST SILVER I believe. This allowed me to go over everything but foil still picking that up from +2-+12. I believe that's gold rang so I will keep digging those until I clear the area. Lol

Do you think I can be missing anything with 16-18 and 26-28 notched. Just to double check.

Xterra Gold with 18.75 elliptical dd

Yes I think you can.Noticed using disc on my Xterra I dont get a clear signal or 2 way signal even on bigger coin in trash.Going allmetal is big difference.Same find broken signal with disc, is loud and clear 2 way signal with allmetal.Have tried so many times I dont like going on trashy sites with discrimination.Using disc on Etrac works great and have no problem with that unit in trash.
Therefore I NEVER use discrimination on my Xterra 705.

Search in AM. Use your notch disc to check questionable signals. You can toggle between the two with a push of a button.
Then roll the dice whether to dig or not.

You can set up the same scenario with a test garden and practice.

I like disc,- can you miss good targets using it------most certainly. What can you gain?-time to look for better signals.

TIME---got time to be leisurely---check every signal you can and try and determine a pattern for a given area.

Time constraints (my usual)--use every tool you have to be efficient and have a pleasurable time.

Just got an IH penny today using the HF 5X10 DD coil and it was a solid 28. Some gold rings come in all over also so if you have those numbers notched out, you can be missing a lot of good stuff. I hunt in a discriminate pattern but accepting all notches.

To find gold rings you have to dig EVERYTHING between #6 on up to #36. I have never found a gold ring that come in higher then #36 but their maybe some huge 10k gold rings bigger then a class ring that may come in higher. If you notch out numbers then you may miss some gold.

That can slaw is gnarly here. 5 Pieces every sweep. I have been just doing negative numbers and 48 but I might just have to clean it out until I can get the 6in coil. Just a pita. It's like someone had a can collection then it was plowed shredded then put a sod layer over. Btw its a school and the coin ended up being .40 silver.

I have been digging deep coins on negative numbers....checking the signal with prospectmode and if it not null out I dig it...sometimes:)

Several years ago at a old school that was closed I went there on n off for a good 2 years and dug EVERYTHING that beeped from on top of the ground to as deep as the X50 could go "I had a X50 at that time" I found 4 gold rings that come in anywhere from #9 to #36. I also found 4 silver rings, a Barber n Merc Dime, a hand full of IH's, V', Buff's where the numbers jumped all over the place. I remember one 14k gold 7mm wide and high domed, it was a heavy ring and it was a good 5" deep and it locked on #27, but the other 3 jumped around some, so to find gold you have to dig it all, sorry. also you never what else you might find while doing it.

I dug one indian penny that came in at 24 and several that were 28. I dug a titanium ring that was a 14.

What's the point of this discrimination then? And 4 different settings to choose from? Too many buttons and whistles.

Discrimination will let you cherry pick, that's about it in my opinion. There are too many variables for any detector to be able to discriminate accurately. Ground mineralization, ground moisture, target depth and proximity to other targets to name a few. Doesn't matter if you have an entry level detector or top of line detector, if you don't want to miss potentially good targets, you have to dig almost everything. Yes, the top end detectors and their features and improved circuitry will help, but they haven't made that miracle machine yet. JMHO.

Thanks again guys. Will be ordering the 6 inch dd here soon I guess to relieve the stress of info overload with all the beeping going on. I have tried just about everything but a few of these places I am sure would be hot are just to trashy.

I never use discrimination on the 705. If I want to cherry pick, I just pick and choose my TID numbers I want to dig. Discrimination does not keep your machine from seeing the targets just keeps it from giving you an audible signal so all the trash is still being processed and nulling the threshold anyway. If you discriminate you might have a tendency to swing the coil too fast because you are not receiving the audible signal and thereby missing targets that you might have discovered with a slower swing and hearing each target. I have found several silver coins that were next to or in the same hole with trash that I believe I would have missed had I been discriminating.

Pescadore, you are right on with your comment. If it is nulled out you won't take the time to rotate around a target to try to pick out a good signal being masked. I hunt yards with high iron content and would miss plenty if I used discrimination. Yesterday went to a yard 3 of us hunted a few times previously using the 5x10 coil. Detectors used previously were my Xterra 705, an AT Pro and a XP Deus. This yard was covered pretty well by the 3 of us on earlier hunts but it is loaded with iron. By searching around the iron signals I pulled a 1873 IH at 1", my oldest coin to date. We missed it before due to the masking.
