Haven't had much time to get out with 550. Last week, because I had a guy on vacation, I was off on tuesday.Very rare for that to happen. Decided to hit the beach. Not the best timing, incoming tide with a high at 11am. Overcast with a heavy marine layer. Even the dry sand was wet and sticky. Spent an hour dodging surfers, going from the wet sand to the slightly less wet sand. Wasn't sure if the 550 would work or not. The only thing I had going for me was it was the only time I would be able to get to the beach for who knows how long. Found a penny and a dime!!! Oh, and lot's of trash. At least it wasn't HOT!
After I left the beach I drove to a park my mom used to take all of us to when we were kids. In the late 50's. Not a big park so I went to the far end and worked my way towards my car. First time I had problems with interference, the power lines to the houses backing up to the park ran along the park boundry. Had to drop my sensitivity down to 6. Found coins, but only clad. After an hour of detecting the place was swarming with stroller jockies. All the nannies from the neighborhood were showing up with the little ones. As I got closer to the playground it became impossible to swing the detector without them running up to see what I was doing. Time to go home. At the front of the park they were putting in some new sidewalks so I stopped to detect where they had put in the forms and removed some of the soil. Nothing! Not even trash!!! I walked over to read the bronze plaque they had mounted on a stand...DOH!!! The place was called FISHER PARK.... No wonder my Garrett was acting up... HA! It was founded in 1933 so I will be going back again. Found over 50 coins some at 4-5 inches deep.
On another note. I was saving my coin for a 7x10" coil. This weekend my wife and I went to one of our local Indian Casinos and surprise, I hit a nice jackpot. So I came home and contacted "The General" and have ordered a new 1350. So I will have a 7x10" coil it just will be hooked up to the 1350. I thought it was the way to go since I have the 4.5",the 8.5" and the Power DD coils already. I will now have the 550 for a back up or a loaner if a friend wants to join me. My gosh, I must have GREEN FEVER!!!!
Happy Hunting everyone, Bill
