Now that the SE has been out for awhile...

I'm surprised that we haven't seen any posts comparing signal to signal with either an XS or EXII or that the SE is finding good targets or deeper good targets than the other Explorers. It would be interesting for a seasoned Explorer hunter to search a promising area first with the XS or II, then hunt with the SE...that can often tell the tale. I'm concerned that a change in the EX's electronics may reduce it's ability to find silver better than any other machine out there. James N.D.'s post regarding his first hunt with the SE was rather interesting...now that many have sold their XS or II's for the SE...have the finds been any better? Or are most holding out until they hunt their good sites out before letting on:lol:...HH

I just checked e-bay and found 2 for sale. The way you made it sound i thought maybe i'd find 10 - 20 for sale. Thats nothing, alot of people buy detectors and try them for a few days and sell them, most don't want to spend the time to learn how to use something different. I used to do that, when i first started detecting, i was looking for what worked best in my area.

I been using the SE for 2 months now and used an XS for 6 years. I don't think the SE is deeper in my area anyway. I do think the SE is a better detector though. It's audio is faster which is nice in junk, the the pin-pointing is dead on even on deep targets, the menu layout makes more since, which is nice. In all I like it better, but if i had a fairly NEW EX2 and could not really afford the SE i'm not sure i'd upgrade, because even with the faster audio i'm not sure i'm finding anything i would have missed with an EX2. In conclusion, if your happy with the Explorer you have you may just want to keep it. IMHO

I figured many will say just that. I just bought a brand new, one of the last Explorer II's that were made, since it has the SE thicker handgrip and solid stand along with all the slimline batteries. I had an Explorer II before and did very well with it. I sold it since my new job had taken all my time but I'm fighting back so I have more hunting time again. My big concern was that the electronics may be different and the SE might not be so hot on silver as the XS and II...HH
