I have had a couple of explorers in the past and just bought a new Explorer SE Pro. This time I am determined to stick with it and learn how to master it..I hope.

I started reading the Explorer & E-Trac Handbook today. I am just through the first chapter but I have to say this is a very well written book. I think it will really help me understand what all the settings are.

I wish I could hear some wave files of what a deep silver coin sounds like. Can anyone describe what I should loo for? I chirpy high pitch? I just can't picture it in my mind.

After ready the reviews by Bryce I did order the 8x6 SEF coil and will have it later this week.

Bryce, if you see this, what kind of Harley do you have to go with that shirt? I have a Heritage Softtail Classic and an Ultra Classic. Only need 6 more states to have the lower 48.

Here it is hanging next to my Shadow X3 (main detector) and a little Garrett ACE 250. I am hoping the Explorer will become my main and only detector I need.

Thanks for any comments,

Harold

Go to this site beep and you may find what you are looking for. You'll want to go to the Downloads section. There you will find a couple of simulators written by Max Derouen. Load them and the target files from beep and Max and you will have a what you are looking for.

You will have to go to Max's site SE Sim to get the SE simulator. After you load it and start it it will be in French. There is a setting to change it to English.

They simulate the SE and E-Trac detectors just like using one in the field.

Here is the deal, you have to trust the Explorer. A very deep signal will sound weak and tiny. These signals are easy to just put off as a "churp" or chatter... but if it repeats it should get your attention. Turn 90 deg. if it sounds good it is a "digger". I have found that very deep signals have sort of a tiny null on both sides of the signal. Sort of like this as you sweep over the target: threshold, tiny null, tiny signal, tiny null, threshold. The most important thing is to double check all of those tiny signals. It takes work but gets results.
Hope this helps, HH - BF

Since the Explorer SE Pro uses a DD coil the signal is concentrated in the center of the coil and is longer front to back then side to side. Here is a diagram of the DD coil signal from MineLab.

Big Fang discribed it pretty well for me. They do sound tiny... you have to learn to be more attentive to those weak high tone. Once you got it the light will come on. Dont move too fast. When i started i believe i was hunting too fast to catch the weak signals and know what they were. Kind of push your coil along till you hear those chirps and check them all. Some wont repeat ... that going to be iron for the most part. If you are hunting in manual... keep that smartscreen moving. If you are getting tones and the screen doesnt seem to be keeping up drop your sensitivity. This really isnt a hard machine to learn.... but expect a year before it just clicks about these deep targets. The pay off is great thou. Do this, dont trade that SE until it has paid for itsself. Takes a lot of clad ect to pay for this machine.. so by then you should have it.
