Nugget hunting

LL

New member
Just wondering if the T2 was capable of locating small nuggets or would I need to purchase a machine specifically for this. I am still learning the ins and outs of this machine and since I live fairly close to gold mining areas thought I might give it a try, if it is capable of this. LL in Mesa, Az

Dave Johnson, who designed the T2, also designed the original Fisher Gold Bug. I own both machines and I felt the all-metal mode of the T2 was very reminiscent of the Gold Bug. Add in the iron bar graph and discrimination/ID and tones, it oughta be a winner. I have tested mine with some small sample nuggets and it's up to the task. With the new small coil, I'd have great hopes for it!

The T2 is also not too shabby at detecting meteorites and there's several known strewn fields in Arizona, some of which that have nuggets in the same general area. You'll wanna visit http://www.nuggetshooter.ipbhost.com/ and introduce yourself!

Ed, Thanks for the information along with the recomended web site. Hope to try the T2 for nuggets in the near future.

LL... If you have a T2 and are interested in nugget hunting consider the small coil.
While, because of its' smaller size it may not be the best for random hunting. But
in a known goldfield it is at home hunting old drywash piles, rocks, brush, and other
tight areas. Do not worry about "what revision." Either will be okay. Consider hunting
in all metal... the preset seems to be a good starting setting. Also just frequently
using "grab" to groundbalance... You will be pleased with the "snipers" fast full time
ferrous target and ground phase information and fast response.

As far as booting up the sniper, it requires a longer and different diameter connecting
bolt. I happened to have an older lower pole and hardware which I used... now I have
a lower pole attached to both the search coils...You will find small grain-sized flakes if
they are out there. One thing to consider, wrap the battery and speaker area and do
not set it down in the dirt... I just wrap mine with something like an ace bandage... also,
do not worry about what the meter ID's... you are not looking for a coin...but small to
large nuggets, weaker signals. If they are out there, the T2/sniper is as good a choice as
any other setup... it is you that makes it work...

Parrott, Thanks for the information. I do have the small coil but have not had the chance to use it. Wraping the speaker is something I had not thought about but seems like a good idea. Should be able to get into the hills within next few days, I hope. Thanks again. LL

It has been mostly raining and cold or windy here. I have not been going out to
the goldfields... actually it is very bad as I write this for those heading north out
of San Bernardino... Cajon pass not good.

I have been using the "sniper" coil to hunt around old flagstone curbs... where I can
get permission... the ground is now wet and easy digging... and it goes w/o
saying easy to backfill and leave no trace of my digging....
