new to se what is the main cause went out today and i couldnt get a constant threshold to save my life.every time the threshold would blank out is this normal

Usually means the machine detects something you have discriminated out.

Yeah I think mark is right. Must be alot of iron in the ground in that area. Go super slow, if you stop the coil and the threshold comes back your on iron. One of the spots I hunt whenever I get close to the house I get a constant null. Have to go slow, like stand still and bearly move the coil around you. You should be able to hear the good signals thru the null.

If anything, you can switch to All Metal and see what happens...If it sounds like a slot machine your detector is working fine..

Yes it normal. Every detector will have coil shut down over every target. What you hear or dont hear thru the headphones is based on the disc you set it at. Its kind of like a sponge being squeezed. Open up the IM a bit and you may get a better threshold. Also less sensitivity or auto sensitivity helps. I think some will say it just doesnt matter because it will hit on a coin any way even in null. All machines have coil shut down.... you just dont notice it like you do with the Explorers. They say the Explorer has a slow recovery... but put it in AM and listen to the targets. Its recovering pretty darn fast. You have to hunt these areas slower as well when it starts to null. If you are running your sensitivity to high sometimes you may think you are hearing minerals..... its not its a lot of EMI that you have disc out. I check occasionally when i start getting more noise by going to AM with the coil in the air to ensure im not to hot. Also to much sensitivity and you will tend to pick up DEEP iron causing null and begin only getting surface targets.
