numbers

ABSOLUTELY. The higher setting you use the more volume of targets, minerals, EMI and salt involved. You may be trying to process 7 to 10 gallons of dirt with the larger coils. So the deeper the target the less accurate the TID. You start getting a lot of target jump just because the Ferr digits arent as accurate and you tend to get wrap around. Be careful to listen to the tones on these deeper targets and trust you ears over the screen .... especially the digital. When in doubt dig. This isnt a rare occurrence. TID is a problem with EVERY detector at depths. Thats where a good test garden comes in.

dew is absolutely right, john. the deeper the target, the "weaker" the signal returning to your detector, and thus the more all those OTHER weak signals (the ground/soil minerals, other nearby targets, etc.) that are being seen by your coil will skew the numbers of your "good" target. Like dew says, all detectors have this problem, some more than others. In my opinion, the Explorers do pretty well. I also agre with him that the conductive numbers are more stable than the ferrous numbers on deep targets, so if you get a repeatable deep hit, with decent conductive numbers (but ferrous numbers much higher than you would expect), it may be a goodie...

thank you both , you have been very helpful. i think the explorer se knowledge has to be taken in medicenal
doses.found my first goodie today 1783 bust peso, Spanish 8.

it is well worn, no date , going by carlos 111 and other letter on the coin i don't have the ability to post pictures. i have a digital camera but can't seem to get a clear picture. need advise

Humm do you have macro on the camera? You should be able to us that. Another trick is if you have a magnifying glass, i use the one i look at coins with, you can get a pretty clear close up with it and the camera.

[size=large]if you have a scanner, try that for a pic. you also have more control of how the pic comes out and the size for posting

Macro and a steady hand are critical to good pics of coins and use the high resolution setting on the camera. You can use something to help steady your self like a couple of books or a can of baked beans to rest your hands on. Even then The pics look fuzzy to me until I put on my reading glasses! With the higher res settings you will definately need to resize but it makes a pic that blows up a bit when you click on it.
