That's a nice collection of old relics. I'm sure some of us would like descriptions of some of those military buttons. That Excelsior button is very interesting. I recall you said you lived in upstate NY. You hunting around Oriskany Battlefield? I used to live up that way but I wasn't detecting then.

Chris

do the two military buttons ( fourth in first row and second in the middle row) say art metal works inc. on the back? i found one and from all the research i have done, it appears that they were on military uniforms from ww1.

Very Nice.

I looked up your button, hope you dont mind. You may aready know.

The button wt close up . Is a post revolution button- New York militia.
New york signed constitution July 26 ,1778. The state seal was adopted in 1882 from one in use from 1778 and using the motto "EXCELSIOR"
Backmark could be- "Lewis &Tomes/extra Rich" or "T.Potts/Imperial/J.M." ,there are several others, the earliest ,1850 is "Scolvill Mg Co/Waterbury"
It has a "Rare Value " of 3,, out of 100. That is wt 1 being the rarest. And that is with out knowing the backmark, if it is "Scolvill MG Co/Waterbury" it becomes a RareValue 1.

Its a great find by itself not to mention the rest.

Hi everyone, Almost every cellar hole here in central NY has at least one militia button. The last few I recovered were found here in Little Falls, My new boss happens to own an old farm. After I did a little reseach I discovered that an officer from the revolution settled on this land after the war along with his sons. Mark, my boss, directed me to an old cellar hole which was obviouly an old home site, I didn't find much there, but I discovered two other sites which were not obvious and hadn't been hunted before, that is were these last finds came from except the seated half dime that was recovered in an abandon part of a Little falls park. I've been sharing the finds with Mark the owner and I will see if I can get a picture of his cut, he has two bust half cents four or five bust cents, one Vermont copper and one conneticut copper all of these are in poor condition, but he also has one regiment button from the war and a bat wing buckle and a shoe buckle, quite a haul from one site. Thanks everybody!, Happy hunting!
