O8 Coil Questions Please

I have an Omega 8000 and am loving it having used it only a couple times, getting finds, so that is good. I have a couple questions:

Does all Fisher coils with same screw connector work?

Are the stock 10" and F5 11"DD coils waterproof?

Is there a way to tell if a coil is waterproof or not? Like there is a special mark or the cable connects a certain way?

Is there a cheap (lol) 5"DD coil suplier anyone knows about? I am finding 120 bucks is the lowest......

Thanks!

Jim

As far as I know ALL modern search coils are suppose to be water proof.
The Omega can use any of the Greek Series coils, Gamma, Delta, F5. But, no! you can't just use any coil because it has the same connector.

I've not seen or heard of any company manufacturing low cost, DD coils for the Omega.

Let me touch on the waterproof subject. The 11" bi-axle on my F75 died shallow water hunting last year in early summer. Yes they are supossed to be waterproof, but they can leak a number of us First Texas product users have found this out the hard way. Just a heads up, I can't say on the other Greek coils , no experience with them.

PS . I got desperate and drilled small holes in multiple locations on the 11" and it took a few months. But eventually it dried out and has been in service since ( with the holes siliconed) in fact this coil found a '62 Rosie last night @ 8"

Hope this helps save someone from my experience with water hunting the 11"

Thanks Lakota, did you find the original hole or leak area? Would the factory not take the coil back as defective?

Jim my machine wasn't under warranty anymore, My conversation with Fisher went no where fast on getting the coil replaced... Yeah pretty crappy I know.

This is kinda why I was throwing it out there for the guys that don't know about this problem, I think it is something that happens to the coil with age and use, since I had hunted the water multiple times before it drowned. Since then I have added a OLD Tesoro Stingray to my arsenal, its worth its weight in gold and keep my 11" coil out of the drink.
