Hi, Jimmy here in Smithfield N.C.., I hunted on the camp site of shermans occupation encampment in Raleigh N.C., and I found these odd relics, does anyone know what they may be ? they are lead with the same patina as minnie's. I have looked on a lot of civil war relic sites and have not found anything so far. Any info will be much appreciated, Thanks, Jimmy (USNavy1965-71)

Yeah - What umrgolf said is what i'd say based on the photo. cch

Thanks for replying, I measured both of these and the one that looks like a type of finial is 1" tall and the ball diameter is 3/4', the tear drop shape item is 1 1/8"tall and the biggest part is 5/8"diameter. The finial ?? has a a 1/4"diameter round hole 5/8"deep on the small end. The tear drop shaped item has a 3/16"diameter hole1/4"deep and has a small round or bar object either lodged in or is an actual part of the tear drop item, did the engineers use a plumb bob fo anything back then? The finial?? appears to be shaped like the ones I saw on confederate cap box but not sure. I am still looking and asking, I appreciate the help from y'all

Thanks Doc. It does look like a fishing weight, it must have lain in the soil on top of that hill as long as the minnie balls I found because they have the same patina, I wonder if they used those type sinkers back then, I guess my next move is to Google "Old Sinkers" and see what turns up lol, thanks again.

They used lead bullets as sinkers back then too. Ive got a couple of flattened out 3 ringers with square nail holes thru them which were probably used as old sinkers. Good catch on the sinker DOC ! cch.
