Odd readings on the Cortes.

Hey all, got my Cortes finally and have been doing some airtests with it. Very impressed with the airtests actually. One thing that concerns me though is when I wave a "green" wheatie in front of the coil it rings up as a zinc penny and sometimes even a square tab but when I wave a clean(not dug) wheatie over the coil it rings up at 95 which the green ones do on my other detectors. Sound like something defective?

Jason,

There were many different alloys used in the Wheat Back pennies, the earlier ones read like zinc pennies just like Indian Head pennies and some of the early Indians read like pulltabs:shrug:

A reading of 95 is where a lot of newer coins will read on the Deleon and Cortes its a normal reading..Besides you don't dig coins out of the air do you ?:rofl:sorry coudn't resist

I've had wheaties register a little lower if they were worn real bad but never just for having some green on it from the ground. My point I guess was, no other detector that I test those dug green wheaties on register any different than a clean undug wheatie. I'm worried about missing deep copper coins because they might fall into the square tab range on the Cortes.
