I'm looking forward to seeing what this bad boy will do!
Currently using a Quattro, Excal, and CZ-70. Previously used a Sovereign Elite, a DFX, and a Garrett GTAx 750. I guess I'm looking for the PERFECT fit. As are we all, I suppose. Anyway, I have a lot of reading to do and a little testing in my coin garden and at a few well-hunted spots I have. I'll probably have some questions. I'm pretty excited though.

No, it doesn't mean no more pennies. You can never get rid of them with certainty, as I found a very nice 14K mens band last summer that was just heavy enough to come up in the range of a penny, regardless of what kind of machine you have. That said, I will agree that with my Quattro (for example, because I'm not sure where a penny will come in at on the Explorer) a zinc penny will usually be 34, maybe 35. And I have passed up a number of them that I was resonably sure were pennies. But as you know, at the beach a penny can be a little crusty and come in anywhere in the spectrum. But sometimes I will dig what I'm sure is a penny and there comes the nice heavy gold ring or a watch. You just never know.
I think I am going to love it. I've only done some air testing and practice sweeping tonight but am already liking it. Tomorrow I'm going to probably be able to get 30 minutes to an hour of swing time with it if I can break away at lunch. Or maybe right after work, in Suffolk. I'm chomping at the bit!

Fresh out of the box, battery on charge. Believe me, I wanted to. But as it was, I had the dreaded "Attempted Delivery" slip on my door. I had to drive like 8 miles to the UPS joint and pick it up between 8:00 and 8:30 PM only. So when I got it home it was already almost 9. So all I can do is hlod it...look at it....dream.

With the "battery on charge" I`m assuming that you also got the Pro pack as I did with the EX II that I just bought. Did you get a single battery pack or did you get individual AA NiMh cells and a battery pack(case) and charger? Mine came with the cells and charger and my dealer seemed somewhat surprised but I`m very happy with this option. The batteries from Minelab are 1600 Mah and I just bought another 8 Energizer 2200 Mah cells from Sam`s Club for $15 for a handy backup. I feel that this way I will never have a defunct and expensive rechargeable battery.
With your experience I`m sure that you will be very pleased with the Explorer. I`m a brand newbie and I`m finding a fair amount of stuff using only the factory presets so far.

Seriously, Congrats on the new machine! It is a beauty! I know you've been jonsing for one... So enjoy... Can't wait to read the reports!!!

Actually, mine came with the 1500 ma NiMH pack, the 1800 ma NiMH pack, wall charger, and car charger. And I have the AA pack that came with my Quattro so I'm all set as fars as power goes. You should do well with those 2200's too. Do you know how long they last you on a full charge yet?

"Hello, my name is Mike and I'm a detect-a-holic."
No, wait...
"Bless me father, for I have sinned. I've had lustful thoughts about a metal detector..."
No, wait...
My wife said "It's either those metal detectors or it's ME!"
Dang, I'm gonna miss her!

B U T he will have lots of fun down below the edge

Mike,
IMHO, I think the CZ-70 and Explorer should compliment each other well. I have the CZ-3D and Explorer and think they compliment each other well. What one doesn't sniff out the other one will. The 3D is slightly deeper (inch for inch in coil size) in alot of the areas I hunt here in Western PA. But, I think the Explorer is better in iron and has an awesome selection of coils. Good luck!
