Now what?...lol

Pouring rain so I can't even get outside to test.

Been reading the man...

what do you experienced Coinstrikers recommend setting wise on first trip out ... going with factory preset???

I have two sites in mind for tomorrow's outing, one is not too trashy and I've been over it several times with my cortes and xterra 50, it's a place where I've dug quite a few IH and mercs, but nothing lately... next place is pretty trashy and I haven't dug anything good out of there yet.

Any advice is much appreciated.

I would go with Bill Ladds famous "5-25" setting when starting out. The factory presets are too hot for new users (and most old users :) ) sensitivity 5, and threshold -25 (also make sure u don't notch out everything by accident like I did)..

Sens 5, Thresh -25, Disc 99 (If you want to eliminate the iron), and get a good ground balance. The C$ will hit those IH pennies around 17/18. The dimes will hit around 30. I wouldn't pass over any 10-12 signals either. The C$ LOVES nickels! Right Mark?:poke: My approach with the C$ is that if it's a positive repeatable signal, I dig it. I would stay out of the real trashy spot until you have a few hours under your belt. Don't hesitate to ask questions....That's why we are here  (I can't help you with the rain!)

I'm prolly gonna bug ya to death since this is my first experience w/ a fisher detector and C$...

rain let up so I went to the house where i've dug some IH - first off let me say my trowel isn't deep enough :( guess I'm gonna have to pack along a bobcat, I can already tell this machine puts my cortes to shame, and I really had a special bond with the cortes but I think once I learn this C$ we're gonna part ways. I got some real good repeatable singles around the 30 mark and another one around the 50 mark, but I dug as deep as I could go with the trowel and the object was still in the ground somewhere -

one real quick question .. several times I got a beep or two around in the postive numbers but it did not lock... is that interference of some type - normally on cortes or xterra 50 i have to knock down my sensitivity to balance those machines out to act correctly - or was it sweeping to fast, or junk ... ?? any ideas? also, when you hit a coin on this thing will it lock on the same repeatable ID or will it jump any?

thanks guys for the help, i really think i'm going to like this C$, but i can tell it's gonna take alittle bit to learn.

This is what the forum is for.....ask away!
Yes, the numbers will jump at times. & yes it could be due to a number of factors. You'll see shallow clad will "LOCK" hard. Smaller, deeper items, or a coin that lay tilted in the ground will cause some jumping. Also, other things like mineralization & even other targets close by can cause jumps. I don't fret....if it stays positive, I'm digging. ALSO: Don't try to compare your C$ to any other unit. It's totally it's own beast. It's new technology. So just have fun with it, as it can do amazing things for those who take the time to really harness it's power.....

Ok... just to get an idea... say it's a dime and 9" deep, how much jump in target id would you expect? and how much jumping would you determine that it's trash? I know in the beginning I'm going to have to dig alot of trash to get a handle but I'm just looking for an overall picture right now.

but what usually will happen with something that deep is that you will either get some jumpy numbers (because it's on the fringe of it's ID depth capability) or that the dime (usually in the 20's) will drop down into the teens maybe.....
In other words, I've dug targets like that & I'm thinking "button" cause I saw +10, +12+13, etc....then when ya get the dirt out of the hole you get a louder blast & see a +20-something LOCK hard. The bottom line is if your digging all your positives you can't go wrong. I see gold rings around +06 so I never wanna miss anything like that.....

If it weren't for the Coinstrike brain-trust here at Findmall, I would have been one frustrated and confused 'tector swinger. They were patient with me and sped me along the path to metal detecting bliss... questions?.. just ask away. Someone will know the answers, or will know someone who does...

In my dirt, my deepest dime hit up into the low 40's with a pretty good lock on. Maybe a two number spread.
