OK, here are pictures of the two halves!

Don't know about the stain on the reverse of the Walker. Soaked in peroxide; should I apply silver tarnish cleaner to get that stain off?

Also, was curious to the value. Can someone give me an estimate as the the grade of these two coins? I guessed maybe G-6 on the Walker obverse, G-8 on the reverse, but who knows, I'm probably biased!!

Thanks for looking,

Steve

One other thing I would like to mention is that you shouldn't put Silver in Peroxide since this dulls the coin and gives them a more grayish look. All I do is rinse under a faucet and take a soft toothbrush and gently wipe the surfaces clean while running the coin and toothbrush under the running water.

As for the stain on the reverse of the Walker, that would need to have Electrolysis done to it and even this may not take the stain totally off. Electrolysis is a cleaning method using electrical current and salt water. If you need any info on how to do this feel free to PM me and I will go step by step on how to go about doing this procedure. Congrats on the Halves and Good Luck and HH on your next hunt out.:detecting:

Id recommend BAR KEEPER FRIEND before electrolysis, just because you can pit and damage the coin if you arent watching the time. Bar Keeper is much milder than even baking soda. I can tell you melt value is around $17 right now. Coin World dont even start considering a Franklin half as collectible until its in VG condition just too many available in high grades to collectables. The Walker is a good coin to hold onto just because before 1924 these coins werent recessed and the date wore quickly. Silver is a very soft metal and because of this it will wear significantly in less than 3 years in circulation.

I don't think either one grades better than a G-4...pretty worn. Still a very nice haul for one day. I would'nt sell them..they're only worth about $32 for both. Put 'em in a finds folder and save them for you grandkids !

And just so you know, I do grade coins for friends and such, I have a couple of books on photograding so it is only my opinion. You are certainly entitled to get another one.

Congrats again...that's impressive ! :super:

Edit: The walker is worth slightly more, maybe as much as $25.

You are now an official member of the silver club.
Im very happy for you friend....you have worked hard.
Thanks for your participation on the forum.

James N.D. -- thanks for the tip; yes, the peroxide did make them a bit "gray."

James and dewcon -- appreciate the ideas, I will get some Bar Keeper's Friend; in the mean time, my wife has a silver cleaning cream; may have been a mistake but I put some on and polished it off gently, and both coils cleaned up perfectly. The stain is totally gone from the back of the Walker, and both have a nice silver shine now; I was gentle with the polishing and I don't think I caused any type of damage. They look great now. Is that something to refrain from in the future?

dewcon and McDave -- thanks for the info on the coin values. I wasn't quite prepared to become a coin collector, but I guess I have some learning to do. :) NO, McDave, I'm NOT going to sell them. NO WAY!! I was just curious. I am putting them in those square "coin holders," (I stocked up on them today), and into the safe they go!

Bryce -- thanks again for the kind words. It was alot of hard (but fun!) work; felt like it was never going to happen! But, it's amazing what a couple of silvers will do for the confidence. That, plus learning this awesome machine, and I am thinking there may be another silver or two in my future... :)
