A co-worker of mine is a Christian-SAYS he is one-Anyway,he had these raffle tickets from his church,I think...There is another man at work that is always at odds with this guy(a LOT of peopleI work with have told me he is a hypocrite,in no soft words, either) and this other guy says it too-SO:this guy with the tickets asked him if he wanted to buy one...His answer?"NO-THATS GAMBLING,AND ITS AGAINST MY RELIGION"....I laughed out loud,it was that funny...This guy is always spouting off about how gambling is such a sin,and he does this.THAT GOT ME THINKING:What about all these places of worship that have "TEXAS HOLD'EM NITE,OR LAS VEGAS NITE";and put FUNDRAISER on it???In my opinion;ALL OF IT-including the raffle-is technically gambling-Lay your money out, hope to win...Ive seen advertised at LasVegas Nites"guaranteed$1,000.00 winner".....OK-give me your feedback-ALL opinions check in,and lets get it going!!!

Hey
I Know I am new to this forum so I hope my input will be welcome. I don't believe that gambling is a sin unless you put it before Jesus and your loved ones . A lot of things can be turned from enjoyment to sin . Man has been doing this from the beginning it's all though the Bible. and will continue to be so until His return.

You lay your money down...and expect to benefit from what you pay out. Bad part is in order to get 'some' of your money back a problem has to happen...car accident, house burns down, someone dies, someone gets sick.

You gamble your (premium) money hoping you will get a 'claim' check in return.

The insurance companies gamble that you won't file a claim...that way they get to keep ALL your (premium) money and not have to pay anything out.

If the insurance company does have to pay out....your premium rises because you filed a claim. You may have gambled your premium and you may have 'won' some of your money back but the insurance company is now taking back some (all or even more than all) what they paid you for winning. Do you know they make it even harder to collect because you have a 'deductible' to meet first before they will even send you a dime?

Then we are into 'forced' gambling. We work, money is 'forcefully' removed from out pay checks for a thing called Social Security...and we hope for that money...if we live long enough...we will get a Social Security check each month when we are old. Of course, the government uses 'your money' all those years and they hope you don't live long enough to collect Social Security. And if you do live long enough...you don't get enough money from you years of forced gambling to make ends meet..so you get to take on part time work even when retired to make ends meet...and while you are working that part time job the government forcefully removes money from your check for the Social Security program you are getting money from. Interesting, eh?

I think I'm with Graw. On the point of not letting 'gambling' get between God and family. The use of what God gives us should be used wisely...not hiding our talents but using those talents and getting more...for the kingdom of God. That should be our main concern I think.

If we Christians feel the urging of the Holy Spirit to not do something - including using money in a particular manner then it will be between God and that individual as to whether he did what he was supposed to do or not.

I believe that it is wrong to have gambling in God's house. There is a local church that does the TX Hold Em they advertise on a neon sign out front and in the paper. Oh did I mention they also advertise an open bar! (In God's House!!!) Now tell me that Jesus wouldn't turn over the tables in that place!
Nuf said! :(
