OK, here's a question...

After years of swinging White's, most recently a DFX, I think I've decided to make the jump to an Explorer. I don't have the funds for a new Ex II, but maybe a used one or an XS. Is there that much difference between the first models and the newest model? Is the weight an issue or do you get used to it. I hunt with the 1400 (8x14")coil on the DFX, so I am used to some weight. I know I'll be starting totally from scratch with a Minelab, but I need something different to keep my interest in this hobby, also the sites around me have been pounded since detectors first came out, so maybe an inch or two more in depth will get me some keepers. Thanks for any answers you can give me and I know if I make the leap, I'll be asking more questions on here. Ron

Ron, last year I sold my XLT on ebay and bought a Explorer 2. This was the best move I have ever made since I started detecting. I have found Spanish reales a foot in the ground in the same area I have gone over with several other detectors. The reales are about quarter size and thin as a dime. By the way I had to get a new digger as the one I used with the xlt wasnt long enough, you will find coins at unbelieveable depths. At first I didnt understand what the tones were telling me and wanted to wrap it around a tree, but with practice it will come to you. This is not a hard detector to use at all, turn it on, select what you want to find or not find, noise cancel and go.

And got a used explor.11.Like Cloctor said the first time out and you think you'll never understand this machine, but with a little more time into it and you'll be a pro with it.The dang thing gos deep so dig a bigger cause your going down deep.I got a silver tone with another tone,I went down around a foot and pulled out a blob of lead.Checked the hole and popped out a 1821 dime under it.That would of read real iffy with the XlT if it picked it up at all.Buy one and hit the old sites again you'll find more stuff there that the XLT missed. If ya buy it used you can always get your money back.
