[size=large]Wish I would have taken a picture of it before I started working on it. Now I don't claim to have Brandy's talents when dealing with wood, but I thought the box turned out pretty nice. Click pictures to enlarge. [/size]

[size=large]First I had to sand all the dust and crud off it, then scrape off the floral decal in the center and sand the glue off. I then inlaid a brass belt buckle depicting a sailing ship. I hacksawed the hooks and latch off the back of the buckle and flattened it out in a vice as much as it would go.[/size]

[size=large]Then with flat black paint I painted in all the recessed areas around the carved scroll work, really bringing out the contrast of the scroll. Re-stained the wood, hammered in 25 antique brass tacks,then sprayed a clear coat over it and voila... one maritime box .. The box now sits in my relic room in the Maritime section.
