The Saguaro Catcus has a bird the bores holes in it, I think it is called the gila woodpecker or something like that. It drills the hole and then the cacti secrets some kind of sap that hardens, making a nice nesting area.
The cactus dies and decays but these things are left over.
I was hiking the desert with a friend and came across some dead ones, laying on the ground and that is where I found these.
I brought them home, all the way from Pheonix and have never found a use for them yet.
Now I have. Kept you folks guessing <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="

I gotta admit that it was a tough one though <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock">
