The Saguaro Catcus has a bird the bores holes in it, I think it is called the gila woodpecker or something like that. It drills the hole and then the cacti secrets some kind of sap that hardens, making a nice nesting area.
The cactus dies and decays but these things are left over.
I was hiking the desert with a friend and came across some dead ones, laying on the ground and that is where I found these.
I brought them home, all the way from Pheonix and have never found a use for them yet.
Now I have. Kept you folks guessing <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">

creek bed and he pointed it out to me. There were a couple of those huge things lying dead and rotten. they have an interior skeleton and there were these things, still with the sorta rib like sturcter. I hauled them out and have kept them.
I found the facinating

this is my buddy, Tom with one of them in his hands. We found several of them in that dead cactus he is standing next to.
I have gone to Phoenix a couple times for school and found enough time to explore a bit
