Ok Next question...T2 or Omega?

Describe your desired hunting haunts in detail.

I believe that the T2 has a faster processor and thus a better recovery speed as well. Plus the T2 comes with the 11 inch DD coil as the stock coil while the Omega has a 10 inch concentric elliptical so if you want the DD coil (which is the best coil First Texas makes) you have to buy that as an accessory coil on the Omega.

A little history on the T2 and Omega platforms too. The T2 platform was designed from the ground up (didn't use any previous designs as a basis) to be a cutting edge, state of the art machine. After the T2 came out then FT did further work on it and released it as the Fisher F75, a little more work then it was released as the Fisher F70. Then it was just tweaked again and released as the F75 LTD and finally after some more tweaking they are releasing a T2 LTD.

The Omega is based on a platform that was designed so that it didn't need to be cutting edge and was first released as a Bounty Hunter Platinum and Gold, next it was further tweaked and then released as the Fisher F5, then after some more work it was released as the Teknetics Omega.

With both running the same design coil, I get slightly better overall depth on coins with the Omega. I also get slightly better ID depth with it too in both disc mode and AM. Small low conductors is a different story.

My limited experience using a friends Omega may have influenced my answer too.

Experience with any machine gets better results...........The T2 had the edge in my soil, and my abilities..

I only got about 6" depth on coins with the Omega. The Id was solid though.

I've got both and both have the 11" DD coil. For me the Omega totally destroys the T2 for depth, ID, and audio information. For me it's superior to the F75 also. Don't know how it compares to the LTD's. The Omega does love bottle caps, but where I hunt as a relic hunter, I rarely find any. If the T2 and F75 were $100 cheaper than the Omega, I'd still buy the Omega. Just my opinion FWIW.

you're saying that the f-75 was an improvement to the t-2 and the f-70 was an improvement to the f-75. i believe thats the first time i've heard that claim about the f-70.

I wasn't saying it was an improvement, only passing along information from a post by Dave Johnson, chief engineer at First Texas. I believe what he was saying was that the F70 was the next detector released from that platform. In one sense it was an improvement, in that it had (at the time of its release) the latest software that incorporated any bug fixes and improved algorithms that were done to the firmware. However you could get those same improvements by sending a T2 or F75 back into FT for a firmware flash.

So to sum up just because a model follows another in the evolution of a particular platform doesn't make it a better detector - it depends what the design goals of that particular project was. In the case of the F70 they wanted to lower the price a bit so I am sure a large part of the work involved figuring out what to take out of a F75 in order to create a more budget priced F70. But the basic fact is that the T2-F75-F70 and the LTD models are all related to one another and share the same basic hardware running different software and likely with their processors clocked at different speeds.

The interesting implication to me as a T2 owner is that it seems like it should be feasible to make some sort of adaptor so that F75 coils will work on a T2 since they are related machines. If I had the money I would buy a F75 and try to figure out how they changed the pin out so an adaptor could be made.

BuckeyeBrad, does your T2 have the latest software? I have an omega and I really really like it. That is why I decided to try a t2. If that doesn't work out, I will try something else I am sure.

Steve, I will talk more with you on NEMDF.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. :)

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. My T-2 is an earlier version 6.0. I REALLY like the Omega also. The two compliment each other with their different op freq's and interfaces/handling characteristics. The ONLY reason I'm selling my T-2 is to generate a down payment so I can try the LTD.

I guess for me the Omega works better in this hot Virginia ground due to the lower frequency. Gotta be something, because it's clearly superior to the T2 in my experience. Guess that's why they don't make just one detector.

My T2 works great here in VA. I just cant get near power lines. I hunt cetral and Northern VA but mostly farm land. As long as I ground balance every once and awhile when the soil changes it doesnt seem to do anything but give me relics.
