OK, so what does a deep Indian Head sound like?

Howdy,

I thought all the replies to my question of what deep silver sounds like were awesome, so I thought I'd try the same thing with Indian Heads. The deep silver and wheats seem to share some characteristics (somewhat broken, choppy tone, fluttering cursor, etc - see the other thread for lots of info), but I'm curious about what the deep IHs bring. I'm used to IHs reading about the same as Zincolns, and have always used depth and tone quality to distinguish. But since using the SE, I seem to have no shortage of Zincolns and the IHs are hiding (which could be totally due to not hitting sites with enough age, actually).

So does anyone have any video/audio examples of getting a deep IH before recovery? I've seen lots of IHs recovered on the vids, but don't recall seeing one with a good 'before' tone/cursor example. That would be terrific!

Seems like these deeper coins are still out there to be found, but the IHs get a bit more murky when mixed with the trash perhaps?

A good many of the IHs i find will fall about halfway up and along the right side of the screen. Somewhere just above where those nasty rusty bolts fall. They have a lower but stronger tone than say a wheat and arent as broken up. Most of the time i can tell they are deep just by the sound.

I have had all sorts of experiences with IH's, usually they will be in the middle portion of the right side of the screen but they also will sometimes bounce from the zinc area of the lincolns to the right side and at other times will be down on the left side of the screen about mid point. Can't always depend on the depth as some are quite close to the surface. There have been a number of times when I am amazed to find an indian where I expected a zinc or a wheat. I guess any advice is to dig it if you have doubts about it. I always check a target four ways and sometimes find that coins in general will come in two ways but not four. It all depends on the ground conditions and weather. Anyway Dew's advice is as good as anything, it is simply that IH's are not predictable and often, neither are the very old and deep wheats.
