Have posted this a few times before and heard some interesting answers, but nothing that made me say... That's it! What has been thrown around is.."Army Navy League" and "American Naval League" Could be legion. One collector thought a post Civil War vets. organization. Please father Whatzit, what the hell is this?
ps I sure would like to find something concrete on the fob type item. I would be very happy if it were from that particular company, but I still have some doubt. I may see if I can find some serious collectors through Google and see if they can tell me one way or the other.

Looks like the sun was trying to break through the clouds.

...nice find and in great shape!
It is probably not the American Navy League, which was founded in 1902 and has had the same anchor logo from the begining.
There is also a legnthy list of "hereditary societies" such as the Children of the Revolution etc... but none of these seem to match the abbreviation.
My guess, Army and Navy League. I wasn't able to find much on the net about this organisation, but seaches of "Army-Navy League", "Women's Army Navy League", "Army and Navy League" bring up references to an organisation that worked along side the Red Cross and other Ladies Auxillaries during the Spanish/American War (1890's)
Right now, you have a nice find, put a story with it and you've got a collector's peice. Good luck!

...the emblem either. The crossed gun and sword is a symbol that occurs on some veteran civil war soldiers' tombstones. It may or may not have special significance. That may be the reason some people believe it to be related to veterans' groups.

Here's a partial list of the various Hereditary Societies in America. Each have their own insignia and over the years have produced a variety of pins, buttons, badges etc... Where do ya start?

It's related to the Spanish American War.The emblem (crossed sword and gun over anchor) is the same as the one on Veteran's medals from that conflict (see: item# 240 in link below). The shield is also related to the Spanish American war.It (the shield)served later as emblem for the centennial of that event. That,in my opinion, means you probably have an Army Navy League pin like Steve pointed out or an Army Navy Lodge pin of a veteran's group.Sorry I can't be more precise.
