Too cool, Guv! Where did you find that? A yard sale? <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

$8.99 buys this vintage ad from the link below. Together they'd make a nice ebay package. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Go figure! Here's the item in a current ebay auction. This one is a later version produced by the Security Manufacturing Company, and more closely matches the 1920's ad (note the difference in the tag)
The seller of this item has everything going against him, from a title that makes it hard to find even if you're looking for it, a mediocre description and lack-luster photos. It would be interesting to watch this auction to see what he gets for it despite himself. As well, not original key.
Your buddy has a really cool item. Thanks for posting it Guv!
Description from ebay:
>>>1914 Security Auto Lock for Wooden Wheels
Heavy steel locking devise for old wooden spoke wheels 11.5x5.5" overall and 7x5" inside, with the shape to accomadate a tire and rim of a wooden spoke wheel. Nameplate has a patent date of Aug 14, 1914, Los Angeles CA. Security Manufacturing Company, successors to Miller- Chapman Company. The lock is by Corbin and I had it keyed at no small expense. Franks Lock Shop in San Jose...they said this was the third they rekeyed in 25 years. Certainly a scarce go-with to the early automobile industry. Excellent condition.<<<
