Old Coin

Found this today on top of a rocky hill. Was told Indians once lived there. The coin is badly worn. I am still trying to make it out. It's a little bigger than a quarter.

It looks like the top to a moon pie?
cool find.
Is there a lot of Walnut trees in that area? Or a low PH in the soil to eat it up like that.
jimb

Looks like a King George copper or other colonial copper. About half of them come out looking like that. The Indians dodn't mint their own coins but they might have got it from a white man. Ron

Too bad that it is in bad shape but at least you know what it was and looked like. Maybe there is more at that hill and if you return to it, Good Luck and HH to you. Hope you find a Silver Coin that old!

Greetings John,
That is a really nice find. I would hit that spot with a fine toothed comb!:drinking: Was the area trashy? If not maybe take a large coil after you give the once over with your standard coils. :detecting: From the date of the coin, There could be some really good coins and relics deeper!! Happy Hunting Grounds,

Savage (EX-II):minelab:

Hi JOHN, looks like it could be a British copper? don't know, its a good find none the less. Keep working it until the ground freezers, & then still try & work it. Where in Maryland are you ? Have friends in Wolfsville & Hagerstown great hunting over there. Like Savage says work it , then with larger coil, remember low & slow. GOOD HUNTING & GOOD LUCK. GG

I actually found this off a trail back in the woods. I heard nothing for a while, and then I got the High pitch on my Exp II and saw the cursor in the top right corner. It was about 10" down. I will be looking again this weekend.
