Old fair grounds but all junk

Old Katz

New member
I went to an old town today thats fast becoming a ghost town.
The main street business are closed up. Out of 500 people
on the 2000 census only 120 faniles remain.
I was directed to the old fair grounds but it wasn't a very fruitful day.
The old fair grounds and been turned into a large baseball field for the local
school. It was all nicely trimed grass.

All targets coming in 1-3 inches were junk with the exception of the .54 cents
I found. Lots of pennies though, but I let them go and stayed with digging targets
coming in a 4-9 inches. As you can see it was all junk. I threw it all away except for
a few pieces. i thought if I continued to dig the deeper signals I might hit paydirt.

Pictures:
1. junk recovered and this is only just a little bit of it.

2. Main Street, dead as a rusty nail. The cafe is open but the coffee was terrible!

3.A view of some old houses.

4. The fair grounds, now a baqseball diamond.

I know you were disappointed, but it sure sounds like a fun place to hunt to me! You gonna try to find another place around there to search?

Absolutely!
One old gal told me I can come by and search around the back where she had an old house torn
down. The more I get to know these people the more likely they will feel comfortable with
me and let me MD there.

Glad to hear you'll be going back. I bet you'll find some amazing stuff if you keep at it!

I've scoped out two places that I would like to hunt. One is the site of a torn down house (not sure when it was built) and the other is the site of a torn down traveller's motel (maybe from the 1960's). Both were leveled within the past few years, and the lots now stand empty, so I'm hopeful that the owners will permit me to detect there. I just have to get up the courage to ask for permission.

Maybe some one got there before you.Sure sound like you should have found more but some times that what happen.I would have been up for that trip sounds like a good spot.

Tn Girl If you don,t ask you'll never know.If he says no just say thank you and ask him where else would there be for detecting,
You'd be surprise what answer you'll get at times.

I would not give up on that site. If that was a fair ground at one time it was probably a yearly event and ALOT could be there. If you can find out from any of the locals where the main fair was located (rides, concession stands, ticket booth, parking areas, etc...) you may hit the jack pot! But then again if they have turned it into a ball park it may have all been filed with several inches of fill material. If that is the case work the edges and the parking area of this ball park. Ball parks can be good especially if they are well used ones!

Thats Exactly what they did. Also the locals warned me that the place had been hit really hard over the past few years
BEFORE it got transformed into the ballpark. But I'm glad I went. Got to make a couple contacts there.

My time will be better spent working the old houses.
