OLD FAITHFUL XT70

Gday from downunder, :ausflag:

This great hobby of ours has financed my 4 detector purchases and these days I am spoilt for choice but my old Xterra70 is still my favourite.
The Etrac is awesome but needs a slower swing and is heavier.

This morning early I grabbed ol faithful with 5x10" DD HFand headed for a much hunted park
The ground staff and Council Rangers here are strict and only relatively shallow targets extracted with just a screwdriver and pliers are allowed...no plugs permitted.
I also took both my pinpointers as the Detectorpro picks up what the Garrett cannot reach.
I targeted the usual $1 and $2 coins and got $32 in 3 hrs.
During the last hour I got a TID 18 - I had been concentrating on higher denomination coins TID 28, 30, 32,34
The fact that this park is littered with low - mid range targets makes recovering them all a lifetime proposition
But this signal had an extra little high tone "ping" on the end of the sweep so I decided to find it.
Glad I did, up from 2" down came a 9k ring ;)

It has 3 Elephants in line holding the others tail by their trunks.
I think the Elephant is Oriental good luck
It was good luck for me anyway.
Happy swinging and stay as warm as u can.

Nicely done..very pretty ring. Sounds like you might have a lot of fun at that park...it will be worth taking your time to carefully investigate everything you can. HH

That is one nice ring. Of all the places in the world I would chose Australia as the place to visit. HH TomB

Sometimes I feel like I'm ready for a new machine but...I just can't get myself to send the X-70 to the back of the closet. It's been to good to me.

Nice finds! Especially the ring... I have been using mine for 3 yrs now. The Etrac is on the list. I am waiting on fed income tax to purchase one. Hopefully tomorrow is the day. By no means is the Xterra70 goin to mothballs...I have found way to much....

Now that is a really great looking ring.

I have this detector. I have yet to use it. I dont know nothing.
Got some ???"s!

If i go out looking for gold in the hills will this due versus panning?
Yes i know panning is in water but i heard this was a versatile detector / thats why i got this one.

I am in Southern Calif.
I hope i can soon use this.

Gold is so high its time to go get it out of the ground.
Just wondering if this detector will get me some gold?

I have a old high school ring i can use to learn the sound i guess.

Never detected before and bought this years ago because of all the raves from this site

any word on that ring? is it old? nice digs

Hi ron

Being an Aussie our soil conditions are different over here.
People here do find gold with Xterras but our soils heavy mineralisation makes things very hard
the lower mineralised soils in parts of the USA are easier to hunt and some Americans do well with Xterras
But - you need an 18.75 Khz (high frequency HF) coil or two
I would guess the 5x10" DD HF and the waterproof 6" DD HF might suit you

Someone like David may be able to help you better. I think he does ok on the gold over there
Good luck
