Hi all
I have been researching my county here in Florida for what is left of old home sites to potentially detect. I am finding some of these that were built in the 1920'-1940's time frame with a few around the 50's. What I am finding with these is that the owners have added on additions to these homes over the years and I guess my question is has anyone got any ideas as to where to start searching in and around these "old sites"? To me most of the good stuff is going to be under the additions! Now some of the houses have very large trees around them and that is one of my first target areas. And of course most of the abandon ones are way over grown so getting really close in is almost impossible.
I have a series of old homes that I just checked on that were 2 old farm sites dated 20' and 50's 5 buildings total 2 seperate locations. These potentially could have been built over some of the older home sites as well (1800's hoping anyway!) These homes are in open fields and so far the developer has not gotten close to clearing ground as of yet and am definately working on getting permision to hunt these homes ASAP!
Also I had an old site that I visited awhile back that (my job consists of reviewing subdivision site plans and making sure environmental stuff is needed or has been done "right" listed species wetlands and such). Well one of these sites I found had a cistern, made of brick, circular, and that was all there was to this location. I know it was an old home site as large trees were present with several citrus planted strategically where a house could have been. Also on the periphery of this potential home site was an old orange grove still thriving of course they have succumb to many years of freezes and are now sour...I digress...the potential site has been cleared, roads put in, and future home sites are in place most of the location has had some fill up to 3' placed above the original grade There are remnant areas bordering this site that may be at original grade. Any ideas guys and gals?
I can kick myself for not getting my detectors sooner!!!! This site was an old one possibly late 1800's
I have an ACE250 with stock coil and a 9X12 hopefully soon a Sniper is in the works!
