Old Lodge Gives Up Missed Silver

Today I went back to the circa 1910 lodge site that I last hunted in late April. Instead of hunting the entire site I concentrated on the outer fringe area that hasn't produced much in the past. Walking slow while hunting in All Metal Mode I was able to find 6 old coins that were missed when I've hunted there in the past. The 1908-D Barber Quarter and the 1927 Mercury Dime were down 6 inches in the same hole and gave a solid 88 reading and was a very obvious signal that made me wonder how it had been missed over the years. The Walking Liberty was buried with the Jefferson Nickel and was also 6 inches deep, but the piece of solder wire was in the ground about 3 inches above it. It gave various numbers between 55 and 82 but was loud and was the kind of signal that I would always dig. Total time spent hunting was about 2 hours and I feel that these were targets that I just plain missed in the past....Thanks for looking

Really nice couple of hours of hunting.

Couple of questions,
What coil are you running?
What kind of depth reading was the detector giving you on those 6" coins? I ask this because the depth reading on my F75 is off by a couple of inches, so a 6" coin would read for me about 8" to 9".

Thanks Ron in WV. I was hunting with the stock 11" double-D coil. The depth reading showed 7-8 inches on the 6 inch coins. I attribute the extra inch or two to the grass height. The grass was recently mowed and was about 2 inches tall. Mine also is always off a couple inches. Even while pin pointing with the coil pressed against the ground,I feel the grass plays a role in depth readings. The depth is calibrated based on the target being coin sized. I always dig the plug based on the target being 2 inches shallower than the reading so that I avoid damaging a coin with the digger.

Very nice finds ! There's 2 of my all time favorite coin designs in there and in great condition too (the mercury dime and walking liberty half).

Really nice digs! It sure is a great assortment!

Nice variety of silver and big silver is always a thrill. Good hunting. All my 75's have shown the target to be deeper then it actually is. Even with precise pin pointing. HH jim tn

Miserman,

I was wanting to see about how much extra depth you are getting out of MAM, so I air tested a silver dime. From DE and BP to motion all metal and with both I was getting a additional 2.5" on the dime.

One of the reasons I like All Metal is that good targets have a "smooth" sound. By this I mean they are not choppy at the beginning or end of the signal. This is also the case while hunting in Disc. but it seems to be more pronounced in All Metal Mode. Years ago while hunting with the older style Fisher 1266X (as well as other models) that didn't have VID numbers, this is the type of tone you listened for. Also All Metal Mode will give less false signals than Disc.Mode. Having less falsing allows me to concentrate on the signals more. I have been trying to listen to the sound as well as watching the VID numbers. I feel that proper Ground Balance is also very important. Thanks for the input Ron in WV

Just to add a little more information, I air tested all my coils in DE motion AM and BP motion AM on a silver dime only.

11"DD, 10" concentric, and the 5x10 DD, all tested the same depth. 10.5" in DE motion AM and 11.5" BP in motion AM

The 6.5" concentric (little football coil) was down just a tad but I think it is holding it's own with the big boys. 10" in DE motion AM and 11.5" in BP motion AM

The 5" DD coil didn't really hold up as well. 9" in DE motion AM and 10.5" in BP motion AM

Yes that's about what I am seeing. While hunting in Motion All Metal (With Boost Process activated on the Disc.side) the response characteristics of Boost carry over to the All Metal Mode. These characteristics are less noise and slower response speed. This is quoted in the F75 User Manual under the Boost Process section. In other words While hunting in MOTION ALL METAL with Boost activated on the Disc. side you can swing the coil SLOWER because of response speed. While hunting this way I do notice slower target response speed. I personally like hunting in Motion All Metal with DE activated in the Disc. side. This allows for a medium to fast swing speed that gives a fast target response. If hunting in MOTION ALL METAL in more trashy sites ,the Boost Process activated in Disc. with the resulting slower response and slower coil swing seems to give better target separation results. THE THING TO REMEMBER IS THAT YOU ARE IN ALL METAL, IT'S ONLY THE "CHARACTERISTICS" OF BOOST PROCESS OR DE PROCESS THAT ARE BEING CARRIED OVER...... Thanks Ron in WV for the info.

Superb finds. CCH

Love it when you get you see that big silver down in the hole. Nice finds. Thanks for posting.
