OLD, old Tesoro

appleart

New member
Hey Tesoro users just thought I would ask if anyone else has an Old Tesoro? I have an original UMax Bandido....not a Bandido II . I know that it is certainly outdated and not like the new fancy MD's. That's what I have had.........seems like forever....original owner.......
Just thought it would be fun to check in.

I still have a Toltec II that I purchased new and I still use it as much as my newer unit. Great machine. :detecting:

....I have an original Bandido .....not the uMax.....If you own and use a detector long enough ...you learn to tell what every click and grunt means and after awhile can tell the soft from the loud signals....

I'm the proud owner of the 22nd detector off Tesoro's production line when they started it all. A " Deep Search VI".....Serial # 0022

It's great to hear that there are some of the older ones out there and being used! I don't feel so alone now :)

Personally like the older ones better, performance is on par with what Tesoro offers today if you don't factor in the V and Tejon.
They just come in bigger packages. I'm sure if Tesoro never came up with the umax boxes for the Toltec II meter, they would still be using the bigger brown plastic boxes. If you ever wanted to try an older Tesoro, get one now as prices have gone way up on them..............they have reached cult status.
I just can't seem to part with my Amigo II, Cutlass II and Bandido II.
You can see all the older Tesoro models and download the catalogs at my website http://www.treasurelinx.com/tesoro.html

FIRST DETECTOR EVER INVENTED--------------4 FOOT BOOM STICK WITH A 4 OZ. MAGNATE AT THE END,NO SENS. OR DESC. IT WAS TOUGH IN THOSE DAYS:nopity:

For those who asked to see the Deep Search VI detector, go to this link, it's posted in the archives on this forum.
http://www.findmall.com/read.php?17,1381199,1388685#msg-1388685 If it doesn't work for you, I'll dig up some pictures from a host site I have them on....

Yes, still own it and it looks pretty awesome for it's age, but I don't detect with it. More than likely it needs a good tune up, it gets almost no depth these days, but does fire up and work....

Hi appleart, I think you will find there are lots' of folks not only holding on to their "Old Tesoros", but plenty of them tracking down their Old Tesoro favorites (so unwisely shed )and putting them back with the flock.I hung on to all of my originals and tracked down some "proven" favorites and have managed to gather a pretty good crew for my wall and closet : Two Sidewinder

I have many older detectors

Bounty hunter magnum 7
Garrett deep seeker
tesoro teltec-100 and 4 others
also newer Fisher 1236-x2
and never turned on Nautilus dmc2

I started out with a Garrett ads Groundhog!
Found alot of good stuff with it,
useing reverse discrimination!

Charlie,
Sounds like you have quite a collection! Someone might think you like those ol' Tesoros :)
Great to hear about all the old ones floating around out there.

Yeah appleart, Tesoro just uncomplicates everything for me with their simplicity, workability, warranty and service.I did not begin with Tesoro until 84. I have several other machines hanging on my wall, but use them only occaisionally..Three: 100 Khz Compass(for nail beds), 0ne Garrett BFO.(Sidewinder),One Wilson Coin Select,(Beach) and a Hays MK II. The Sidewinder BFO was my first. Wife gave it to me for my birthday in 69.I gave my Troy X5 to my son so he would be well prepared for his occasional hunts with me..Health and weather has trimmed my time and space but I can manage when I need to, to step outside in my yard and try and sniff out something from an old house place I walk on every day.Lol, that sure is nice! HH Charlie

Okay, seeing you all enjoyed my Tesoro Deep Search so much, I'll share a pic or two of another favorite of mine. Anyone remember this Tesoro PI Detector?...

Darn, won't let me post, my pic files are to large. Well, it's the Tesoro Piranah, PI Detector. Looks almost exactly like the Sand Shark / Tiger Shark, same housing, but only one operational knob....Turn on and go. Great Salt Water Unit and Deeeeeeeeep.....

You have to crop your pics.Go to the pic,Then crop it.I have to do this also. The piranah sounds really cool.I would love to check out one of those out.I am beginning to think Tesoro nuts like the detectors more than actually detecting. That is how i feel.Wow,weird ain't it!
