Old Rifle Hammer?

Hey gang, brand new to the forum AND detecting (3 weeks tomorrow). I found this at a supposed old stage coach stop in Nor Cal last weekend. I thought it might be a hammer from a flintlock or percussion cap rifle, but can't find any images of v-shaped hammers on the web. I'm now leaning toward a kick start for a tiny motorcycle. Obviously, I'm out of ideas. Does this look familiar to anyone? It has a spur on one side of the longer arm, and the elbow is definitely has a pivot point.

I'm pretty sure it's part of a primitive door latch. When pressed on the large flat end, say with your thumb, the other end would raise lifting a latch on the far side of the door.

Here's another type/design with the door pull with it.

Cool find. HH

I don't know why it didn't dawn on me earlier but when compared alongside your quarter your find doesn't look large enough to be a door latch. At least a full sized door.:shrug:

Don't think its a frizzen spring, its too thick.
Definitely not a flintlock hammer.
Don't think its a percussion cap hammer, the business part of the hammer would be cupped instead of flattened out as shown in the pic. The geometry doesn't appear to support a hammer, and its way too thin to take the forces that a firearm hammer requires.

It looks like its a part of some sort of spring-loaded latch release mechanism. The small protrusion in the 2nd pic is definitely for hooking a spring. The flattened out end would be for applying finger pressure.
If its firearm related, its small enough to be a safety or barrel latch but i doubt that.

I'd guess its a latch lever from some type of farm implement or other machine.

I've got a ton of strange finds that i'll never know what they were or from what.

What an awesome site this is! My thanks to each of you for your insights. Ironsight, I suspect you're probably right. I'm glad the pics were clear enough for you to see the same details I've seen.
