I usually dig all the overloads too at cellar holes......they have led to some great iron relics that I have preserved (I'll have to post the big one I'm doing electrolosis on as we speak). PLUS in my way of thinking I'm getting a large object (usually iron) out of the way that can be masking smaller goodies. I remember very well one "hunted out" foundation right in front of the door step I got an overload & pulled out a big old iron door hinge. Then I went over the area again & got one of my best British coppers. All because all the other detectorists skipped over that big iron signal. You never know an overload could be a shallow belt plate or cache too.
On the same idea- my buddy John found a pistol at another "pounded" cellar hole & the barrel was sticking out of the ground! Everyone in the past never bothered with it.....they thought it was just an old iron pipe sticking up :)

Bill
