Old Tones Golden uMax Question

I hope you guys don't get tired of me asking so many questions but I am working real hard at mastering ( I hope) the old version Golden uMax. According to 53 Silver's excellent video,... the zinc penny gives a mid tone until the switch is flipped to "wide" and then it is knocked out. But when I set up my OLDER model Golden uMax EXACTLY like he sets up the NEWER model uMax,... the zinc penny tone is gone. It doesn't matter if it is in "narrow" or "wide" ...it is still gone and doesn't give the medium tone. I don't dig zincs anyway but I'm just curious about this. When I set the narrow / wide switch to "off"... then that's when I get the medium tone. Does anyone have the old tones Golden? Please try this test out on your machine and get back to me. On my old tone Golden I could tune out the nickle in Narrow or Wide notch by turning the Notch width knob counter clockwise. Only in Wide Notch could I tune out the zink penny, not in Narrow Notch. Dave

OK, ....Here are my settings: threshold set to barely hear hummm,...sensitivity at 8,...disc at min,....notch switch to narrow, ...mode switch to disc,...and notch knob at 12:00. Zinc is completely gone. Still gone when moving the notch width knob right to left. Flipped notch switch off and now it picks up the zinc strong. Anyone know what's going on with this? Is it ready for a trip to Arizona?
