Old trinkets

Hello, I went detecting a few days ago on an old 1800's site, and found these two enamelled trinkets, possibly parts of a braclelet. I'm wondering if the pictures represent anything? Or is it just decorative? Any info would be helpful. Thankyou.

Hello Angela,

The new moon (crescent moon) in conjuction with a planet is a spectacular sight in a morning or evening sky, and is an event celebrated by many different cultures. This often occurs with Venus, Jupiter or Mercury, and on occasion with Mars and Saturn.

Below is a pic of the moon on April 6, 2000.

Also a diagram of the event on Dec of 1997 five visible planets in a group around the new moon.

Do you suppose the 2nd bracellette piece symbolizes such an event, 5 planets, with one brighter than the rest, all in conjuction with the moon?

I am not familiar with your southern constellations, or with the Australian native lore, but I understand there is an Aboriginal constellation called the Emu. Perhaps that's what the first one symbolizes?

Just a shot in the dark. BTW. enamelled copper/brass decorative items like these can date back to the mid-late 1800's, so this is in keeping with the context of your site.
