Older Garretts

morose

New member
I'm new to metal detecting and was just given two older Garrett detectors. Both are in excellent shape and seem to be working fine. My question is am I wasting my time with these older models or should I look at a new one. I was looking at the Garrett Scorpion because I would like to nugget hunt as well as occasional coin/relic. Pros and cons on my units?? 1.) Garrett ADS VLF/TR Deepseeker and 2.) Garrett American S4. Thanks Steve in California

and quiet in VLF mode and they go deep where the ground mineraliztion is low. I averaged around 10-11" on Musketballs in NY, with my Master Hunder ADS. In TR disc. mode you might just get tired of the tone when lowering and raising the coil. Especially if you have been using the modern detectors.
I tired Garretts, new and old here in Georgia. They barely get a coin 3" in disc. mode, and 5" in VLF mode. The ground here is just miserable. No wonder why you don't find Garrett owners around here.
