Omega 8000 not many people talking about it ?

Have my eye on a omega . I had a fisher f5 before and a AT Pro. What will this detector do with a 11inch DD coil on it? Will it hang with the big boys as far as coin hunting goes ? T2,F75 , AT Pro ! Looking for good info on this detector. It looks good does it perform as well as it looks?

Yes, it will hang on "effective" coin shooting. And that's because it has great target ID at depth. It doesn't quite have the raw depth of T2 or F75 but with the 11" DD it will hit and id coins in the 8-10" in ground depth range no problem.

I've seen post where people were wanting to trade AT Pro's for Omega's.
The Omega is so simple to use that its a bit hard to get past "It Can't Be That Good" without all those fancy settings and limited controls. But, it really is a darn good detector.

Now, following a lot of topics about the Omega I found that some had EMI problems with it, but I've not had any more trouble with the Omega and EMI than I have with any out detector.
I'm thinking that some of the noise issues that's related to EMI with the Omega is running to high of a sensitivity setting, the manual states that this control is a two stage control and settings above 70 will put the detector into electronic noise of the detector and so expect the detector to become noisy beyond a sensitivity setting of 70. The manual adds that the detector can be run in the "Noise Level" but its MUCH more difficult to do so and so sensitivity settings above 70 is for the most experienced users.

I run mine with the sensitivity set in the uppers 60's normally and that puts mine hitting coin sized targets down around the 8" range, which is just amazing.

The 8000 is a fine and deep deep detector. It's been out for a long while so the "newness" has worn off and people don't talk about it so much any more.

I absolutely love mine it is an excellent coin shooter and i have been pleasantly surprised with all my finds. I have the detech ultimate 13 coil and it has great depth and separation for a large coil and was well worth the upgrade. If your a coin shooter and take the time to learn it (which is very easy) you wont be disappointed. Good Luck Paul

Terry.....Hi

Regarding your post title......

I have the Teknetics Gamma 6000 and am always looking for posts about this model, but slim to none !

On the other hand, I see a lot of posts about the Omega 8000.

I got the Gamma, instead of the Omega, because the Gamma is similar and substantially less costly. It was an early Christmas gift from my brother-in-law and I didn't want to take advantage of his generosity ! He called his sister (my wife) last Fall and said he wanted to buy me a new metal detector and I could pick whatever I wanted ! What a guy...God bless him !

I'll have more to say about results with the Gamma after giving it a good workout this coming spring and summer.

I use the Omega 8000 in many different locations .... On the beach , to the park , anywhere .... It loves silver !

One setup i created to HUNT Higher Conductive coins ( silver ) .
I tried this AFTER intial hunting sweeps . I would now Grid a spot and hunt in this new mode . I have ultra cherry picked coins ! ...
I love this machine ... I use the 11" DD ON INITIAL then switch a 5" DD in a grid rea ( 10' x 10' area ) for example.
My coin count is off the chart ...

I call it : The SILVER SLAYER

Do initial setup ...
Power on
Sensitvity 50-60. ( as a starting point )
AT on

GB GROUND BALANCE !

After GB , CLICK " Just out of " AT ( you are in disc mode )
Remember - just click out of Auto Tune !

Now " Notch " all except DIME QUARTER

Power up as possible ... 80-99 ( i usee 88 )

:teknetics: :super:

Yes, in 3-4 tone max disc has same depth as no disc. So you can disc up to 70(zinc) and all emi chatter is gone. Turn up to 90+ sens and pick all the coins. You get all tokens, old pennies, new pennies, coppers, silvers you just miss nickels and gold.

I just got the Omega and can`t wait till it gets a little warmer here to give it a try... got three coils, that little sub 5"
DD is hot in the air tests out side. HH
