Omega 8000 Rain Cover?

earthmansurfer

I can't find a rain cover for the O8000 and wonder if it really needs one (for light rain). The knobs all feel tight (with a rubber washer I think) and the screen has a plastic film over it. But there is the coil connector maybe.

Anyone?

that actually looks pretty cool! I need to get one of those! AWESOME! :clapping:

CRAP, I missed the auction. Do you see any more for the OMEGA? I need to get one!

I got the feeling that this guy is having these made locally in the UK, he has these for the Bounty Hunter, Minelab E-Trac, Ace 250 (not the Garret made). Maybe that was trial run to see if they would sell. I bet they do, as we know Teknetics doesn't offer these.

The business axiom "find a need and fill it" may be at work here. I was considering putting something together, at least something better than my present zip lock bag anyway. I bet he will have Mum whip out some more lads so keep a watch out on E-bay :clapping:

Just send him a message through ebay and ask when he will have more. Of course mention word has gotten out!

I received my rain cover for my Omega 8000 from the UK. There are no holes cut out
for the knobs, so you will carefully position the rain cover in place over the control
box and with a fine pointed marker outline the control knobs. Take the cover off and
cut the marked knobs with an X-acto knife. Mine fits real good and tight. Be careful
when cutting.

Mine hasn't arrived yet so thanks for the tip.

Did you also have to stitch the thing together? :surprised:

No, I didn't stitch anything together. Just used an X-acto knife to cut 2 little holes for the 2 knobs.
Fits together very well. There is a little cover attached to the control box cover for the coil cable leading into the control box.

otlew,
Didn't see, on your link, a clear plastic rain cover for the Omega like I have. All I could see were all material
covers with no clear openings to see your LCD detector info.

reltolbert,
I believe it does have a clear front cover. I think what you are seeing in the picture is the inside of the solid back cover. Here is the description of the cover--- "Hello Teknetics owners! These covers are made from all U.S.A. materials except the velcro. 1000D Dupont cordura nylon, Ultra clear 20 mil plastic and Coats & Clark outdoor UV resistent thread. Thumb under design helps protect your knobs from accidental adjustments. One piece construction offers simple, strong but light weight protection. Thank you for looking and good luck hunting, Darryl"

I just got mine today, and laserfeller is correct, it does have a Ultra Clear screen. When I first looked at these, I thought the same thing, so I wrote the seller and he responded the screen is so clear that does not show in the photos. Mine fits reasonably well, I also cut holes for the switch shafts to pass through. It is designed for what he calls thumb under operation, but I prefer the switch knobs on the outside.

I received mine today also. The thumb under method seems to work pretty well for me. I believe I'll try it in the field before I decide to cut holes in it.

I felt that the screen material is too far back from the membrane switch touch pads, now with the holes it lays flat against it and is easier to use. Also when pressed on the knobs seem to hold the cover in place better. However that is just my take on it, to each his own.

I got mine yesterday and cut the holes in it with no problem. But, now the headphone hole doesn't line up. I have to patch the old headphone hole and make a new one. I don't know why it didn't come with holes in it. I actually lined it up and took my time but the position changed for me obviously...

Outside of that, the quality is good.

I will order mine when I get back my detector in working order. I hope they will still be available then.

The other thing I like about having the switch shafts through the screen material is that the knobs then pin the cover's screen material close to the face of the control box screen making it easier to press the membrane switches as needed.
