Omega and the 10" conc coil

acasto

New member
I own an Omega, and really enjoy it. I have the 11" DD coil and the 5" coil.
Am I really missing anything by not having the 10" concentric coil it comes with?
I am looking at the new 5x10 coil to add to my arsenal. Was thinking that would be money better spent.
Can't seem to find any info on the Omega with the 5x10 coil.

Thanks
Tony

Tony-----I asked that question (below post) and there doesn't seem to be many people using the 5X10" DD on the Omega, or at least if there is, they aren't talking about it.----All I can tell you is this--I don't have an Omega right now but the wife & I have had three of them in the past.----I have never liked the 10" concentric stock coil on the Omega for several reasons but did like the 11" & 5" DD's fine on that detector.-----So to sum it up, although I have never used the 5X10 on the Omega, I have used that coil extensively on the G2 & new GB and I can tell--it's just a wonderful coil on those two detectors--quiet running, tight footprint, excellent seperation and with pretty good depth & ground coverage.------I know there are people that would disagree with me on the 10" concentric & that's fine--but I don't like 'em.--------Del

On less trashy spots I really enjoy using the 10" concentric coil. It, however, doesn't get the target separation that the DD's do if in heavy trash. On the plus side, though, it doesn't like bottle caps nearly as well as the DD"s do. Like you and a few others, I also have been wondering about the 5 X 10" coil for the Omega. I have a friend that recently got one but he has a broken wing so don't think he has done any serious hunting with it yet. For hunting heavy trash, though, the smaller 5" is a real killer. I used the new 5x10" coil yesterday on my Gamma which is almost the same as the Omega i had. I like using the Gamma better the the Omega. Anyway was using the 5x10 for thee hours in the woodchips at a school. Was just knocking out iron, sen. at 95 and digging everything above iron not wanting to miss any gold jewlery. Outstanding coil, could not beleive the small objects it would pick up at depth some i could just about see unless i used my Garrett pinpointer. Pinpointing was right on, a front of coil target is right under the black decal. Excellent coil worth the money. Try one you will like it!

Guys
Thanks for all the quick replies.
Del, I had seen your post, and was following it. I own the new GB also, which is why I wanted another coil that I could use on both machines.
Jim, I agree with you on the Omega and the 5 and 11 " coils, what a combination.
Frank, that's what I was looking for. Someone who had put the 5x10 thru the paces with one of the frat bros machines.

I will go and order that coil right now.
HH and good luck to you all.

Tony

Acasto,
The 5x10 concentric works on the omega and other Greek series detectors but is not recommended for the Gold Bug Pro / G2 . If you want one that will work on both machines you should consider the DD option.

Here is a post that about the Gold Bug and G2 using DD coils. It predates the 5x10 DD. I remember reading other posts discouraging the use of the concentric but on a quick search I couldn't find it. I do remember that Dave said it would not hurt the detector to try it but performance could suffer to varying degrees.

Your right, I should have been more specific.
I am looking at the 5x10 DD coil, not the 5x10 concentric that comes stock with the Omega.

Thanks for the help.

Tony

Acasto, if you end up getting one, let us know how it compares on the two detectors. I too haven't seen much info on anyone using one on the Omega and would be interested in your feedback. HH

Will do. Just trying to work out the kinks on the payment now.

The Omega is a great detector. Personally, I have found it to be my #1 favorite in the entire Teknetics model line-up. Too bad you didn't have the stock coil to use with those two.

In my opinion, Yes, but you asked for and have been receiving the 'opinions' of fellow Omega users. We all have them, and mine have been based on learning the Omega and the coils promoted for it. Here you call it the "10" and that's how they market the coil, but it is an elliptically-shaped Concentric coil that measures 5

As usual, a very concise and helpful reply from you. Thanks so much for your time and effort. I always look forward to reading your replies, whether it's to my post, or someone Else's.
Prior to reading your reply, I have ordered the new 5x10 DD coil from Bart at Big Boys Hobbies, and have also purchased the stock Omega elliptical coil as well.

Two days ago, I secured permission to hunt a spot just 2 blocks from the "old town square" in my home town that was established in 1859. It's along the main drag and my hopes are high. When I asked the current owner for permission, she also offered up her home site that has a home built in 1938 for me to hunt as well. Turns out her father hunted with a metal detector in his waning years and she had a soft spot for others who do also.

I will use both new coils at these sites and do my best to give an accurate report on both.

Thanks again to all and HH

Tony
