Omega Set up??

Hey guys, been lurking around for awhile. I have just gotten back into detecting. Never too serious before, but now i have a Tek Omega, and I'm finding stuff, but i was curious of some settings that would help me find things maybe I'm missing. I can run it hot, most places around here, but usually run Sens at 80 and Disc at 45. and 3 tones. Any suggestions will be appreciated. And was also curious to see what headphones i should lean towards. Ive got low quality ones that seem to do the job but hurt my head, and i would assume i am missing a lot of signals with them, I'm leaning towards detector pro black widows, or gray ghost ultimates. If you can afford the 11" coil for the Omega my first suggestion would be to buy one as soon as you can. The larger coil really make a BIG difference in the machines performance. Also, don't be afraid to crank up the sensitivity past the point where the detector becomes noisy. In most cases the Omega will stabilize when the coil is in motion. Furthermore, I suggest that you lower the discrimination to 16 and use 2 tones. Using 2 tones and a discrimination setting of 16 will allow you to hear almost everything that is under the coil with small iron giving you a distinctive "grunting" sound. When using two tones shallow targets will give you a slightly higher pitched sound where as deeper targets will give you a distinctively different sound. In my test garden I have a coin buried at 10 inches and when I use 3 or 4 tones the coin produces an "iffy" signal; however, when I change to 1 or 2 tones the coin produces a nice clean repeatable no doubt about it signal. If you are cherry picking in a modern area 3 or 4 tones should work fine; however, if you are in an older area where the targets are deep,I suggest you try 1 or 2 tones. As you gain more experience with the Omega you will learn what sounds good and what doesn't. Jump over to the Fisher F-series section and watch Bill Ladd's video on the Fisher F-75 LTD. Bill is running 2 tones and a low discrimination setting on the LTD. Watch as Bill sweeps the coil and in the background you can hear the "grunting" sound of small iron all the while he has his eyes glued to the
target ID screen. This same technique can be applied to the Omega.

I run the DD coil all of the time on this machine. I've been having good luck with the disc turned all the way down to 1 in two tone. With the sens set @ 80 I've been gettin grat depth and pulling some cool stuff out of an iron rich feild. If emi is heavy, turn down the sens.
