Omega Streak Continues

RLOH

Well-known member
I have been using the Omega since mid April and according to my records, I have either found silver or wheaties almost every time out. I am a park hunter and the parks I frequent have been hunted hard by myself for many years. It is a testament to the Omega to hunt these parks and find a lowly wheat penny or two. Saturday I went to a fairground-school where I have not found any silver in two years. The first target of the day was a 1937 mecury dime that was found on the edge of slag infested drive. This particular spot has driven most all of my previous detectors nuts. I lowered the sens to 50 and popped the merc from 5 inches deep. The next signal was a wheatie from a similar spot. I have also been using a cz7a pro and it's depth is legendary, but when the trash gets heavy, it suffers a wee bit. I am finding coins from very similar depths with the Omega. I found some wheaties last week at 9 to 10 inches with the CZ and I truly believe the Omega would have found these coins. Today I hunted one of my favorite places, but it is a spot where good finds are scarce. I went to the end of the park where I have found many of the older coins and gave the Omega a short hunt. I kept getting interrupted by people I have met here over the years so I only hunted for an hour and a half. I found a recent pocket spill and I was purposely digging all deep signals. The Omega was jumping around on the numbers and tones and I knew most would be deep junk. With the Omega, I dig hardly any deep rusty iron and I have dug tons of it here with my Explorers and Cz's. For a coin hunter, this is great to not get fooled by rusty iron. I finally got a high-medium tone with numbers that jumped between the mid 50's and low 70's. It pinpointed deep(6 or 7 inches) and it had a tight pinpoint so i dug it. I got it out of the ground and on my drop cloth at 8 inches. It turned out to be a well worn V nickle with only the first three numbers readable. Those numbers were 188?. Funny thing is, I found a 1885 V nickle in the same park two years ago. I could read the date right out of the hole, but I got too aggressive cleaning it and wiped out two of the numbers. Live and learn. There is no way to get the last number on this coin. I have found 13 V's at this park and all but one have been toasted. Sorry for the ramble. The Omega is the best coin detector made and when you figure in the price, it is a BARGAIN! 11 inch dd coil, ground 78, disc 15, sens 85, and three tones.

Nice report. The Omega continues to instill confidence among us.

Really nice report, congrats on the finds. Yeah, I think the Omega is a great coin machine. I just sold my T2 and now my Nauty IIB, no back up machine. It's all O8000 from here on out. It is no coin-cidence that I found 3 of my oldest coins in the first week with this detector!

Have you tried using the d2 mode at all? Monty was explaining to me that it is actually deeper than the d3/4 mode's, which I found hard to believe. But I did some air testing in the yard with low sensitivity (due to the emi) and it was just noticeable at a sensitivity of 50 ish. It seems that the d3 and d4 mode give the nice loud beep at depths, but only if there is a signal to amplify (Thanks for that info Monte, I'm really understanding this detector).
Here is the post on the matter Monte's Post

Thanks for including your coil in use and settings. i appreciate that, as do others.

The Omega is a very impressive detector, and quite honestly so are the similar-performance Gamma and the turn-on-and-go Delta. Each good, but there are differences. For ME, the Omega is just a perfect blend of adjustability and 'feel' due to light-weight. And there is no arguing that the 3-coil option makes it a real bargain in the industry!

All the best on your next venture afield.

up the date on a smooth buffalo nickel. It really works as I have tried it. Might work on V nickels as well if you can locate any of it.

Earthman, I started out with the two tone mode and I first thought it got better audio which translated into better depth. I had one of the first T2's and I always ran in two tone and I got several coins from the 10 inch deep range. I have found enough deep coins in the three tone mode so the next time I get one, I will switch to two tone and try it from all angles. I would not doubt that the audio will make for a cleaner signal. This detector is a killer on coins. R.L.

Yeah, please post the comparison. I am constantly comparing the modes but havn't done that on any deep sounding coins yet.
I dug a quarter size target at 8" in d2 mode and it rang like it was 3" deep. (Wish I would have checked in d3 mode).
