Omega update

jackintexas said:
I have the version 4 Omega. Does anyone know what the cost is to update the version 4 to version six?.....Jack
I'm going to say with some certainty that they don't offer this service for the Omega!
I recently sent my broken Omega in to be repaired, in the problem report I stated that if the firmware version (software) could be updated along with the repair that I would be interested in getting that done as well!!!!! It came back to me repaired but its the same revision as it was when I sent it in.

My brother sent his in and they upgraded it From version 4 to version 5..he sent it in because we both bought ours at the same time and mine was version 6 so he wasn't happy...they said mine was the newest production run that's why it's version 6..the only difference from 6 to 5 is the embedded serial number..the difference between 4 and 5 is that 5 has a different Tone setup, a 15 khz emi filter...and responds better to bigger silver objects..that's per first Texas..emi is still horrible on the version 6..i can only run 60 max sensitivity..if I run the discrimination to accept only zinc, dime, and quarter..then I can run sensitivity at max..

Now this is a bit upsetting, because if the Omega can be updated why would they just ignore my request for it?
I mean they went far beyond to help me, they had my contact information, I gave them specific request for an update. I really was looking forward a later upgrade (update)

Oh, at lest I got it repaired.

I don't understand it either..they specifically told me any time something comes in for service they upgrade it to the latest software..i would call and ask why they didn't upgrade yours..especially if you requested it..my brothers was sent in specifically for the upgrade and I'm confused myself why they told him 5 is the newest version when clearly 6 is..

Anytime you call be sure to make notes including who you talked to. It can be extremely helpful to all concerned if there is a problem like this. I know Felix and Daniel have been around forever and know what they are doing. You can get a newbie or a temp with any service call. I've been there (well, not THERE) and done that. I know first hand.

The (relatively new) digital serialization and code rev are linked together with a database. The serialization is just that-- serialization. The system is not set up to take a prior manufactured unit and to serialize it digitally.

I don't know the specifics of the situation being discussed here, but this may have something to do with it.

The serialization makes sense..but they could of upgraded marks to version 5...they did it for my brother...

Hi Dave J.
When my Omega first broke I contacted Filex about the problem and he got me an RN Number (F15055). I explained to him the problem, he told me to be sure and put a note in with the detector stating the issue with the unit, I did that.
But, I also ask if there was a revision upgrade for the detector that I would be interested it getting that done along with the repair.

Whenever I pushed and held the pinpoint button down and powered it up (before it broke) in the target ID area "04" would display, well after the repair it still displays "04"

I'm really glad to have my Omega fixed!! and I'm more than pleased with the whole experience, but with all the forum talk about software (revisions) updating I was hoping that my Omega would get an update and I would not have had a problem paying a little extra to have gotten it done.

Dave, could you explain a little bit about the version 4 and the version 5 revisions. I mean if my Omega was to gain something really useful by upgrading it to "5" then I would have liked to have had that done, Serialization at revision 6 doesn't really sound like something I care about and at this time and I wouldn't have paid extra for that.

Now! I want to be very clear here, First Texas did me more that RIGHT! with my repair :detecting: But hearing of people who've gotten Omega updates and me not being able to does leave me scratching my head and to wonder why mine didn't get the update, maybe mine is an earlier "04" revision and firmware is Locked to being upgraded?.

Dave, if there something about my Omega, or something about the repairing of my Omega that the company would rather not post in an open forum, then maybe you could drop me a PM.
