Omega With a DD Coil

Cache Man

New member
What is the most in ground depth you can detect a dime with the dd. coil? and what's the max depth will properly I,D coins in ground? Thanks HH :detecting:

From what I have read 1 to 1 1/2 inches more. As far as properly iding a dime, too many factors. If on edge might not say it is a dime. I go by the numbers on what to dig depending on where I am. Out in the woods I might dig all. In a park only numers that could be good. I am highly impressed with the O8. Easier to use than my sovereign elite.

Not sure how deep it will id a dime, because I haven't dug any real deep dimes with the Omega. But I dug two large cents at over 12 inches in very hot ground, where I had used many good detectors before. Id'd them right on. The Omega with the DD coil is a very well kept secret. I doubt First Texas would admit it's as deep or deeper than the big boys. But I've compared them side by side, and for me it is.

Thanks Shenandoah Digger That's good to know, you must have the sensitivity maxed out to get that kind of depth. HH:detecting:

I recently did a side-by-side comparison with my Tek Gamma and Omega. With the stock coils the fringe was around 9 inches on a newly buried clad dime.
When I plugged down to 10 inches neither machine could hit the dime with their stocks coils installed. With the 11 inch DD coil installed, both machines cold easily detect the clad dime with a good solid repeatable signal and the correct target ID. I found I could raise the coil another 2 inches over the ground and still get a nice clean repeatable hit on the dime with the correct target ID. I did not bury the dime any deeper than 10 inches so I may have been seeing an "air-gap" when I raised the coil. Next time I will bury the dime another inch or two and see if the detectors can get a hit on the dime. There was a time when I thought by raising the coil above the ground another inch or two and still getting a solid hit on a target meant the detector was capable of detecting a buried target equal to the height I was able to raise the coil above the ground. Only recently have I discovered that this is not necessarily true and what I may be seeing is an "air-gap". The only way to tell is to bury the target deeper and see if the detector can still detect the object.

hello there guys would like your input, how would you rate the omega against the f-70? to me the omega looks like alot stabler machine or am i pipe dreaming? evidently this 11" DD coil sounds like the cats meow!

I have an Omega 8000 on the way...with the 11" DD. I wanted the 5"DD package, but Kellyco had them on back-order...and I got tired of waiting for Teknetics to make more 5" coils. Has anyone tried the smaller coil? I can see where the 11" might be difficult around trees etc. I sold my XLT and my 1266X to fund my new Omega along with a Cibola for backup. Any input on the 5" coil would be nice. Thanks, ~Justin
