Omegga gets a few

Took the 8500 out for a short hunt in a yard, got a Washington on edge first, next was a coin spill of 2 Washington and a Rosie, and nickel.. after that it was all clad and junk.Good half hour tho, thanks for looking
The Washington on edge couldn’t have been any more straight up and down, plug is shown exactly as I flipped it out.

Mighty fine half hour. 4 silvers is a good day of hunting. Got my 8500, but just a few hours in on it so far so not to much to say about it yet. The tones are still clipped, for lack of other terminology, but the inordinate amount of falsing I experienced with the first one is not happening with this one. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim,it as a better day than I usually have..Somtimes I hunt in 5 tones if it’s not trashy and targets are sparse..but for the most part I hunt in 3 tone, deep 3 ,,no notch lately although I usto use notch,,and 85 gain..I have no real time on the omegga 8000 so I cant say the audio is clipped to me,,but I guess it must differ from the 8000 for you to say that. Congrats on your machine

Those are great results for just a half hour's searching.

Question for jim tn ...

Does the 8500 seem better than the 8000, with less falsing? I really like my 8000 (version 6) -- deep and accurate in quiet locations -- but often the EMI/RFI falsing makes me have to set the Sensitivity 'way down. I'm wondering if Teknetics did anything about that in the 8500.

Cheers,

Joe

Gamma Joe, I am going to need a little more time before saying to much about the 8500, but right now I would say 8000 is smoother running. I have a feeling, however, in the DEEP 0 mode the 8500 could be a tad deeper. To dry here right now to tell for sure, though. HH jim tn

I know a lot of people are going to wait on that report Jim. I'm interested in the 8500 myself. I can't say I liked clipped audio (had it in spades on my F44) but if it's not too much of a distracting issue on that model, I'd like to give it a go.

Do you think you are going to post a video about in on the tube at some point ? It would be cool to see it in action and your comments.

To the Bigtom: That is one fine 30 minute hunting session ! Thanks for posting.

Sorry to say there won't be a video. Still getting acquainted with the 8500, but will say at this point, I am liking it more with each outing. It really has some useable options and features. More then the 8000. dfmike, I am approaching 20 hours with it and the audio is far less bothersome. Maybe getting accustomed to it. HH jim tn

Yea,maybe.i really do miss my fbs machine and if I can get another one I’d trade. But it would hafto be fbs,I don’t think another single frequency machine will out do the 8500 on just coins.

I see you are parting ways with the 8500? HH jim tn

Actually I’ve decided to keep it I think,it’s a damn good machine and I’ve gotten a few coils for it.Im probably just gonna buy a used fbs and keep them both.I really want to try the omegga in the fields with the tiger coil, sparse targets and use the 5 tones with high gain.

I have two Omega's right now, 8000 and 8500, and one will eventually go........I guess. I also have a F 75 and a A T Pro and have decided I want a comfortable swing. Anyway, need a few more hours and hunts in with the 8500 before it becomes decision time. Good lick! HH jim tn

Hi Jim,

Please keep us tuned in, while you are working with both the 8000 and 8500.

I think there are a lot of Omega users who would like to hear about the differences between the two models.

Cheers,

Joe

The tones on the 8500 definitely have a "clipped" sound to them compared to the 8000. It does have, however, a tone change that has 4 different tone pitches to choose from as well as a loudness tone change that has a scale from 1 to 10. Pre set I believe is 7. Anyway, the tone pitch change helped some (for me) in making the tones sound somewhat less clipped. I am also starting not to notice the clipped sound of the tones so much. About 25 hours on it now. The proof of the pudding, so to speak, is I am finding coins out of places my hunting buddy and I have hit hard with our 8000's and other detectors. Been hunting a demo housing site that has a good bit of iron scattered around as well as some copper and brass, but not inordinate amounts of can slaw, tabs and bottle caps like a typical park has. That's the type of spot I want to give it a good try on, but it is currently to dry for park hunting/digging. Still learning what all it can do. More to come. HH jim tn

I just purchased an 8500 and waiting for it to arrive. I'm going to be hunting a farm soon and was looking at some nel and Detech coils. Anyone have any recommendations as what to get? I definitely will get a 5 inch but I'm on the fence on a large DD. Any help would be welcome.

I had a hunter coil, and honestly saw no difference over the Teknetics 11 inch dd other than weight, and the nel asnt as easy to swing. This was on a omegga 8000

I agree with Jim on the 11" DD. If you want larger than that I also like the 12 x1 3" NEL Thunder on the 8500.

HH
Mike
