One Item I would like to see on the Explorer:shrug:

The EX has some nice features with the different modes it has.
In some areas I would like to be able to block out the first 2 inches of depth and just get the signals from below 2 inches. I could just look at the screen to read depth. But if you have multiple targets mixed in with surface trash the noise can be some what garbled and the depth can bounce. If the top 2" or what ever you select is cut out. The surface trash wont be beeping and the items below will. Example- Old school house where I only find some clad and old aluminum cans destroyed by the mower and pull tabs from picnics in the first inch or so. Searching here shows the older coins are all below 4 inches 99 percent of the finds. You might pass over a few items but the machine would be a lot quieter. Adjustable depth blanking could be a neat feature. A button such as the pinpoint on the EX could be used to activate it and turn it off. I know some will say just program the trash out but a lot of it hits in the silver area. And it would be quicker just to hit the button once to block the top items instead of reprogramming. Call me lazy, but would it make a faster machine? And it is something you would not need all the time but might be a nice feature. Back to the think tank...

Jimb, that would be handy alright.
I'd like to be able to turn the VCO feature of the pinpoint mode either on or off too.
Also electronic circuit settings can be programmed by just loading new updated drivers into them, why couldn't we have settings for the Explorer that you could download from other users.
You could have a lead that connects from your Explorer to your PC...
Then run 'em in !!!

Ha I'm dreaming eh!

Yes, You guys are right on!! These are the sorts of features that we really need. It's absurd that they weren't included in the SE - the depth descrimination would be a blockbuster (and a blessing to my ears!) and Snowy's idea of adding a USB port to the detector is a no-brainer and would have really made the upgrade from the XS or II worth while. The processor should easily be twice as fast or more than it was on the XS 5 years ago and not the approximately 20% - 25% speed improvement that we're seeing with the SE over the XS.

A cute redhead in a Minnie skirt and a bucket. The bucket to sit on and the redhead to bend over and dig my targets. Let me tell you right now, every questionable target would get dug and I for sure would really learn the ins and outs of my new machine. Oh, and if they through in a pair of garters and some heels, I'd pay extra.:clapping:

I think with a usb port and a serious processor you might be over asking your power source, rechargeable nimh batteries, that we expect to last another 8 hours of detecting, it doesn't help that everyone keeps complaining about weight. I'm sure every time Mine lab thinks of adding to the explorer someone in the room says wait a minute, YOU'RE ADDING WEIGHT and then they scrap the idea. Personally, if they came up with a detector that went deeeeeeeeper, I wouldn't care how much it weighed.

If tiny little digital cameras can have miniature USB ports in them, there's no reason why a detector can't either. If you could hook up your detector to your computer, then with appropriate software, this would open up a whole new world. For example:
-new firmware updates from the manufacturer
-loading of user settings before heading outside
-run simulations e.g. if you know what the soil conditions are like where you'll be heading soon, and the target types you're trying to find, then you could set in the software these parameters, and then run a large number of different detector settings very quickly against the programmed parameters, which would produce a 'finds' curve. Find the sweet spot on the curve for maximum finds, and use the corresponding settings. These settings could then be sent down the wire to the detector.
cheers,

Yes, I agree 100% percent - it would be trivial to add a USB port to the Explorer. Editting setting on the PC with a mouse would be so much easier than doing it on the Explorer itself. Certainly editting the patterns with a mouse and the appropriate software and the ability to share these patterns with other users would be a big hit. This is what I mean about the software on the Explorer being about 5 - 10 years behind the times. There are so many really cool things that could be easily done that would put this thing lightyears ahead. Sounds like a great project!
