Sorry to bother those who know this machine inside and out but I am sort of lost. Thought I had things figured after the initial confusion and even had a good day Saturday. Tried the testing and went slow and had a great time. But then Sunday, I turned the thing on on got constant warble. Not over a target, not sweeping, just hovering and trying to get a solid tone. Tried the noise cancel with no luck. Went to the individual channel noise cancel and still no luck. Without sweeping the coil I get constant highs, lows, and the sensitivity reading jumps all over the screen. Gave up and came home sat in the chair and tried to work things out but even sitting in the chair with it turned on got this huge variabitlity. Is this normal and part of the learning curve?

Im the last person to say i know the SE inside out. Im a little confused when you say your sensitivity reading jumps. Once you put it on a number either manually or auto are you saying the numbers are changeing? Have you tried resetting it to factory setting by just holding the button down for a few seconds when you start the machine? Make sure your coil is connected tighly at both ends and clean under your coil. Your problem doesnt seem normal... id give minelab a call it may be your coil.
