Only found 3 miserable wheaties tonight...BUT WAIT!!!:yikes:

Headed out for a couple hours at the local park to humor myself. I tried to get at least 1 silver coin but didn't get any signals even close. I pulled 3 wheaties from the iron and pulltab field and called it quits. When I got home I had a few extra minutes while waiting for dinner to cook, so I thought I'd check out the dates on the wheaties before they got thrown into the jar. The second one I looked at FLOORED me! :detecting:

It got a quick peroxide bath for the pic, but needs a little more cleaning and it looks much better than the pic... nice brown color in XF condition with a few minor pits. This is the second 1914D wheatie I've ever found (the first one came at this same park about 200 yards away from this one). I've always hunted this area because there always seems to be a couple older wheaties hiding for me each time I'm out there (I also found a 1909S in this same area several years ago). Just goes to show you that even 1 "lousy" wheatie can make an excellent day. Take care and HH, Mike.

Just the previous month I dug a 1909 S VDB in the same area. It was a F-12 and sold that one for $700. I have never dug but 2 of each in the 20 years I have been digging. Never go a Gold coin though. Maybe some day. Really nice coin Mike. Those are the ones I really like to see. :D: :D: Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

Funny how there was 2 key dates in the same spot. I've dug over 8,900 wheaties in my 25 years of hunting and got (2)1909S, (1)1909S VDB in XF, (2)1914D. I suppose I'm lucky at the key wheaties, but when you hunt older sites, the odds of the old wheaties you dig being rare dates increase. All these key dates were in better than average shape, which is very fortunate considering that many wheaties around here come up pitted and green. I still need a 1931S and a couple other teen S-mint wheats for a complete set... that keeps me looking for wheaties! HH, Mike.

I just love it when people think, he is just a old Fart digging change. That just Cracks me up. Naturally I just laugh and tell them that it is good excersise. :D: :D:. A lot of the places down here are bad like yours are but, every once in a while you will hit a old place and the ground mineralization is good to the coins. When I find one of these places I hunt it to death. Don't you just love digging pennies  Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

Just goes to show some of us on the Forums that Silver Coins isn't the only great finds to uncover. Many Wheat Pennies are worth more than your typical Silver Coin. And that is why I dig all Wheat Pennies because I would rather know that you dug them and you didn't leave behind a Key Date like the one you found. WTG with that Fantastic Find Mike! I am still looking for one of those beauties to add to my collection, maybe one of these days. Continued success to you Mike and Good Luck and HH.:clapping::thumbup:
