Open for suggestions....how do you clean baseball caps

Pete in MI

New member
I have several that need a good bath to get out the dirt and sweat. On some in the past I have tried a spray on dry cleaning chemical that only made matters worse - not better. I have several hats I want to clean, can't afford to replace them and don't want to destroy them so I have to toss them out.

Do you have any successful ways to clean your baseball hat(s) you wear detecting?

They make a cap holder that you can put in the dish washer , work real good I have heard . My uncle uses one.

Hi Pete, I found a baseball cap 'Holder' many years ago. It opens up - you put the baseball cap in and close it up - throw it in the washer. Here's the link:

Hi Pete! I would think that you could put them in the gentle wash cycle and then hang them with a clothespin on a line and let them dry! I have done this with Cliff's caps and he didn't complain! Also, get "OFF" at a store, grocery or Hardware I purchased Off, which came in a fairly large tube, so would last quite a while to use on stains and hopefully sweat stains! You could try it on the inside &/or outside of the band and then let it soak or wash gently in the sink or washing machine on gentle and before it spins take the caps out and hang them up to dry! Just suggesting, because I don't wear baseball caps and don't have a ballcap washer ! Just be careful when trying a new way of cleaning! Hope you can clean them to keep and wear! May God Bless! Amen! Betty

Great - now I have to buy the cap holder AND a dishwasher LOL...have neither but I do have the cleanest hands in the house LOL

Will be checking into that. Thanks for the link.

Shout eh? I guess just yelling at it isn't going to work LOL. Thanks Steve. Might have to use everyones suggestions as these caps sure got dirty. Happy New Year to the family Steve.

Thanks Betty for the tip. Would hate to lose the nice Minelab cap I got last year...and others I have worn to keep the ML cap from getting worse.
Have a very Happy and very Blessed New Year.

How anyone could go into a new year or even a new day without God is hard to understand...but then again I used to be like that. Thank God I am not now.

That's not good news. I just got a new Minelab cap for free last year and I got it pretty dirty...and probably sweaty too. Hope it is salvageable. God bless and have a happy New Year to you and yours.
