opening Quattro Slimpack Battery

Yes. They are the same as the Explorer, Etrac and probably the Safari battery packs. The end cover basically needs some gentle prying off and can then be super glued back on.
I've taken 3 apart over the years. Nimh's batteries and there are 8x AA @ 1.2 volts each....hmm?? that's only 9.6 volts.
They get charged to 12.6 volts by the clever little circuit within the pack. I found that , usually , only one or maybe 2 of the green GP brand cells has been faulty and I actually still have a 10 year old Explorer XS pack that still works very well. I also have the original individual GP cells working in other devices and they to are going strong.

I got some tab soldered AA NiMh 1.2v batteries from Jaycar in Newcastle Street and have made my own packs to suit when I found that the internal regulator was cactus.

These packs still work very well BUT I ended up purchasing a specialized charger to bring them over to 12.6 volts without the internal circuit inside the battery pack.

Over time I have also found that it's just as easy to by the cheap alkaline AA's around town and just use them as a matter of convenience. Either way , it's not rocket science , so you should be okay doing a replacement cheaper than buying a new pack form Minelab.
