organized hunts

I just signed up for my first organized hunt at the end of this month. Any tips out there to help me bring home a lot of coins, thanks

First off, What machine do you plan on using? If you are going to use the Explorer, make sure before the hunt begins to noise cancel and to run your sensitivity down low to about 20 Semi-Auto. You can drop it if you need to since the Explorer will still find the coins at any sensitivity setting but I wouldn't go down past 15. Run in Fast only and instead of trying to do fast sweeps with the detector, do long sweeps and make sure you cover the area with each swing the size of the coil so you don't miss any coins. And if you are using the Explorer for this hunt and you have an X-1 Probe, make sure after you use it to locate the tougher coins to switch it back to coil. Nothing will replace the valuable seconds it takes you to notice that you didn't switch it back to the coil. Now if you are not using the Explorer just use a bit lower sensitivity that you normally would regularly detecting and use the long wide sweep for maximum coverage. And using a pattern is the way to go also. Another key thing to look for is try and see if there is any visible traces in the grass as to where there is a wide area that nobody has walked thru yet and this will hold coins others have just walked by. Hope this helps and Good Luck with the hunt. They are a lot of fun and no matter how many finds you get, the real joy of a hunt is meeting new people and visiting with them and especially the food.

THANKS FOR YOUR POST. I IMAGINE THE COINS AND TOKENS CAN'T BE BURIED TOO DEEP. wILL IT BE LIKE AN EASTER EGG HUNT. AND YES I WILL BE USING AN EXPLORER II .

very deep but some do get buried by accident on edge or as deep as 6". That is why you need to use the Probe. If you use the probe for quick recovery, remember to switch it back to the coil. By the way, Do you have a Joey Coil or a Platypus Coil? If you have a Joey Coil, you should use that since it is a lot lighter and has the same amount of ground coverage. And pinpointing with the Joey is better than the stock since it is narrow and the sticker decal on the top front of the coil is where the coin will be when pinpointing. The platypus would be a good second choice for a hunt. Most of the coins should be just under the grass so it should be easy pickings. And remember that if you are running a program on your detector, to make sure that it will pick up all the coins planted and the tokens as well. Good Luck and have a great time at that hunt and hope to see or hear back with a post on how well you did.
